For the Crossports Faithful: Tomorrow is the observance of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, a Holy Day of Obligation. Let’s all get ourselves to Mass to honor Mary tomorrow. I hope you all enjoy a deeply spiritual & rewarding Advent. Merry Christmas, fellow Crusaders!

On a related note, tonight is also the school's Festival of Lessons and Carols. A very nice way to get into the feeling of Christmas. For those of you not local, I think it is streamed on the school's website.
It requires a little more creativity landing on the vigil for the Immaculate Conception, but where there is a will, there is a way

On another related note, my parish priest told me that it is not the entire U.S. college of bishops who pick these days. He said that days like tomorrow are only days of obligation on the east coast and the mid west and west simply move the feast to the next Sunday - kind of like sliding Memorial Day from the 30th to the last Monday. Not sure how that affects the four Sundays of Advent. Maybe the Immaculate Conception just gets forgotten.
Anybody out there live in the west and pay enough attention to these things to confirm or deny if the old Holy Days of Obligation are now only a regional thing?

Looking forward to The Holy Day of Obligation on Monday, December 25th celebrating the Feast of the Nativity, the question will arise whether we Catholics will be expected to attend Mass on both the last Sunday of Advent on the 24th AND another Mass on the Christmas Holy Day. We fortunate Papists will, in fact, be asked by Holy Mother Church to attend Mass on both days to celebrate the Eucharist with our Lord, satisfying both the Sunday and Holy Day obligations at separate Masses. Double your pleasure on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Crusader Faithful. Adeste Fideles! gulfpinecatholic.com/2023/12/08/yes-christmas-eve-is-a-sunday-but-theres-no-double-dipping-for-catholics/

Personally, I might make a rare appearance on Saturday evening for the 4th Sunday of Advent instead of going Sunday morning and Sunday evening

That sounds like a great plan, Tom. I think I’ll try to do the same. After enjoying the Advent Lessons & Carols, I’m looking forward to singing (badly) the traditional Christmas hymns at Mass. Gloria in excelsis Deo, men.

Even a Marian Solemnity cannot take precedent over a Sunday in Advent.
Had a nice Mass at our school yesterday without music with the exception of an assembly rendition of the first line from Immaculate Mary. Added a certain solemnity.

Speaking of church music--a couple of months ago, some anonymous benefactor gave our parish a Steinway grand piano-. The sound is incredible
