Didn't like the baseball pass. Nugent very fortunate to get that look.
Maybe Paulsen thought that Harvard would give the foul and wanted to ensure the ball was in the front court with time left for a shot?

On the previous possession, didn't mind iso-ing Octave. Our best guy one on one and is able to score off the dribble or from the perimeter.

Just not good enough.
That's the summary of HC men's hoop up and to this point.

So, work done and I check back. I have to admit I thought they wouldn’t get back in it. I think I’ll watch the replay of the second half.

Wish that Octave had started his move a few seconds earlier to maximize options. I know they were correctly trying to drain the clock, but I think he waited TOO long to make a move. On the last play, I’m not sure Nugent was ready to get the ball there. Final shot seemed a little flat-footed despite having a clear look.

He was flat footed because he had to rush to beat the clock. I believe that the play was designed as executed, but Kenney was challenged and did not get a quick and ideal pass to Nugent, Joe did an admirable job in releasing the ball before the buzzer sounded.

There have been decent chunks of time in the last 3 games where the guys have played well. Freshmen coming along. Caleb gets the most out of his size. It's just that matter of destroying the losing culture. I still think it's going to happen .
Couple of times Nugent made drives where he kicked the ball out instead of finishing the drive. Maybe he's close to taking it all the way, which would really open things up for him.
This would have been a really nice win.

I just didn't like killing that much clock; maybe a little; but HC's too offensively challenged to get a good shot off starting at 10 seconds or so instead of 30. Wouldn't it have been something if Nugent, who was 0-0 at that point, had won the game w/his only attempt. Although, I'm sorry, what the hell's wrong with the kid that he doesn't get a 3 ball off, doesn't go to the hoop (couple times he had a good first step or two and passed the ball off, unacceptable).

As mentioned in my other comment, I have problems with Nugent in general, but not on that last shot. Did the best he could given what he had to work with. Almost nailed it too.

My favorite moment in the game was the outrage the Harvard kid expressed when they dared call him for 3 seconds, like they could have several times more.

In 25 minutes, Nugent was 0-1 from the field (final shot of the game), scored zero points, had one rebound, and committed four fouls.
That seems almost impossible.

Today he fought the hardest of our bigs who were defending their high scorer. He got only one rebound, but did box out effectively.

8 guys played, Kirkwood and Rabs and one other guy (Declan II or Capron) had unis on.
And Bo was there for sure lending moral support.
No sign of Tse or Will. I would think Tse is toast, if you're going to play again you don't disappear.
As far as Will goes, "Sick in bed" is odd for a 20 year old, unless he's quarantined or something like that.

Free Throws HC 5 of 6 Harvard 11 of 14 I just noticed the same thing. How do you play 40 minutes of basketball and only get 6 free throw attempts?

Holy Cross has attempted 153 free throws this season - opponents have made 154, We continue to be near the bottom of D1 in FTA (353rd), FTR (350th) and percentage-of-points from the line (353rd).
Nugent has three FTA in 325 minutes. Singleton has two in 175 minutes. Williams has played 268 minutes, and has yet to go to the line.

Paulsen said in one of his early interviews that he wants the opposite of this. Not rocket science, of course, but he cited it as a core principle.
Just goes to show that we're not playing the way he wants, yet.

My hoops comments before I go back to hibernation
I watched the Harvard game twice
Wills, Singleton, Nugent, Ryan, and Williams are going to be fine for four years If Batch comes back, i didnt see him on the bench, Wills and Williams will help him big time Nugent gets better on D each game, he just needs to attack the rim offensively Excited to watch Singleton and Ryan grow Octave plays every possession with little emotion as if he is playing a pick up game - not bad, but on Defense keeps him as a question mark Caleb is getting better as he grows in the game
We are about a month ahead of where I thought we would be The freshmen and incoming recruits are the future Incredibly impressed with the coaching and future direction
Injuries in football were devastating, injuries in hoops are a blessing
These incremental improvements and growth by the freshmen are monumental progress for the program
This year we move forward, next year we win
Catch up with hoops during the playoffs
Merry Christmas and God Bless you and your loved ones!

Will B is out with the Flu, and Bo is out until the league games start..these past few games have really helped the freshmen get their feet under them...I think we will be just fine in league play!

What’s wrong with Bo? I thought it was curious he came off the bench against Maine. Now, he’s not playing. There didn’t appear to be any injury in a game. He’s had a woeful season shooting the ball. Has he been playing injured?

The difference today was ultimately our front-court....Kenney played well but was basically over-matched at both ends....we have a good nucleus going forward (given next year's recruits) but we need help up-front to be a decent team moving forward

Really? I need some further explanation on this comment. Not for the players injured. At least I don't think you mean that. If you mean for the program because it allows others to get a shot and gain experience, maybe. If so, you might have chosen a different way to put this.
