So, in viewing the Elms game clip that Crucis posted, this clip was up next on YouTube. I started watching it. I and a number of other posters were at BC’s introductory press conference and we saw this live and got to meet Bob’s family including his wife, kids. mother and father, Bob, Sr.
May I suggest that you watch it after scanning to about 8:19 spot (skipping Nate Pine’s introductory remarks if you so choose) to see how prophetic Bob’s comments were.
The one thing I particularly smile at with 20/20 hindsight was his comment how important it is to “believe.” This predated a certain streaming show ("Ted Lasso") about another American football coach who knows nothing about soccer but ends up coaching a team in the UK . . . . eventually successfully, as his team learns to BELIEVE in themselves. That was prophetic for Holy Cross as well.
As an aside, in watching the other posted Crucis clip on coach Paulsen’s post Elm game interview, it brings to mind why I didn’t ask Coach Dan Curran about his laryngitis when I met him as never hearing him speak before, I didn’t want to possibly insult him as perhaps that was his normal voice.
Finally, within the next few days, I will be changing my avatar picture but I’ll always treasure the give and take I’ve had with Bob Chesney over his 6 years at Holy Cross as well as the conversations with his Dad, the ORIGINAL Bob Chesney. May they continue to have great success as their lives move forward! 💜✝️

I remember at the time being impressed with those points and how he articulated them and hoped that they would be manifested in the team’s performance during his tenure. Obviously, they have been. As sader1970 says, be grateful for what Bob accomplished at HC and thankful that those three points are his lasting legacy for all of our current and future coaches.

So you are saying make a small statue of Saint Robert Chesney and hang him from your rear view mirror?🙂 I have moved on but will always be happy to read any post about Ches and his activities like I am about Coach Duffner and other former Crusader Players, Coaches, Presidents, ADs etc.
It will be exciting getting to know Coach Curran and other new coaches and players. One thing Ches did was take inherent Holy Cross challenges and turn them into assets with his "you can have it all at Holy Cross" approach. Unlike Coach Calipari who tried to copyright the UMass slogan of "Refuse to Lose" (can't remember if that was granted or not) when he left, we have a smooth transition to another veteran head coach who is fully capable of keeping championship level play going at Fitton Field, even with a heck of an act to follow.
Any new coach hire would have some risk. I think Kit reduced risk as much as possible with Coach Curran so the future looks bright.

I looked at this thread with some concern...until I read it. You guys have created a good farewell to BC and kept in mind what he brought to the Hill as we move on. I wish him well, glad for all he did for Holy Cross and for all that HC gave to him. So long Coach Chesney and welcome Coach Curran. BTW, who exactly will your assistant coaches be???

Nothing will put Bob Chesney in the rear view mirror faster than a thread about … Bob Chesney???

So, we can count on you not coming back to this thread to add more pithy comments, right? No, don't answer that! It's a rhetorical question.
