Locally, WPI (11-2) plays at Clark (11-3) tonight at 7. The two teams sit atop the NEWMAC standings and are ranked 28th and 31st, respectively, in the latest D3 poll.

Clark won 73-69. Exciting game. Quinten Prigden from Fitchburg plays for Clark; brother, cousin?

Attendance: 325, there were a lot more in that gym when I saw a high school girls doubleheader there a couple days before the pandemic set in. Didn't exactly spark interest in the community (don't blame the kids, they are most likely on break).

Was not too long ago when this rivalry banged out the Harrington and Kneller on a regular basis and drew a large amount of locals.
College kids are lazy and boring.

I wonder if that was what had a big crowd for a double header. Had to be something special to have a high school game on a college campus

In NJ Don Bosco and Bergen Catholic butted heads last night with DB taking a close game in the final minutes. Would that HC could get one or more players of this quality. The crowd in Ramsey NJ was about 980 on a school night.

WPI generally draws more fans than Clark. The rematch at WPI will be higher, attendance wise. Clark has been running this high school tourney for years but it does not include any City schools which made sense years ago when Worcester schools were much larger and had much better teams.

Reason city schools aren't allowed in the Clark Tournament isn't necessarily size, though there is a size restriction. When the tourney was started 80+ years ago only city schools were allowed/invited into state tournaments. Was set up by the towns as a post season option and they have held true to this throughout. Private schools not eligible either.

That rationale no longer can be justified since MIAA now conducts a post season tournament which includes all schools in many divisions.

Had to be something special to have a high school game on a college campus IIRC it was a MIAA tournament doubleheader, lower division games (which would be even lower now because there's one more division than there used to be). A friend of mine was the asst. coach at Northbridge. I remember it because the virus was all over the news at that point even though it was still a week before the shutdown. The gym was not banged out; but full enough that I had to think how to position myself so I wasn't close to people.

I suppose if you've been running a tournament for the smaller public schools in Central MA for 80 years, you might want to keep the tradition going even if the teams are now eligible for a state wide tournament. Back when the state playoffs were broken down into regional districts, many schools took as much pride in winning a Clark title as they did in a district championship

Usually those games are held at the higher seed until you get to the final few. District semis and finals normally held at WPI, but MIAA did away with those

Which, in my opinion, should be adjusted to the quarterfinals at least. *if a gym is not considered suitable, they move the game somewhat close to the higher seed school.

I thought it had been longer since the MIAA screwed things up and got rid of districts. I remember a D-I playoff game (not the semis), St John's vs ST Peter Marian where SPM was the home team. SPM (originally an all girl's school) had a tiny gym and that district quarterfinal was played at Clark
