I detect a pattern in many of our games. Our shooting percentage for field goals and 3sis better than the opponent but the opponent takes more shots.

We just might have one of the worst D1 defenders at the guard position

The pains of having a 6’6 center and not much else in the front court.
We are going to get there under Paulsen, but this is frustrating to watch.

AU has 9 more fg attempts so far and that hurts

Burn all evidence of this one.

Can't win games we don't finish around the hoop..AU's size was a factor no doubt. Everybody out there in a purple uni missed a few bunnies..Singleton was on the bench in civies...Turnovers were costly, many were unforced. As Coach said, two steps forward one backwards..

Batchelder is a big liability on the defensive end - constantly gets beat off the dribble. You are so right. Don’t know how we can hope to play shut down D when he is abused over and over.

Couple of observations after watching all 40 minutes from Bender:
- Somehow I got charged $18 for a ticket. I paid $6 to sit in the 100s for Georgetown-Butler last night…
- Solid royal purple turnout. Can’t say we aren’t loyal.
- Coach Paulsen personally thanked me for coming out tonight as I was walking to my seat. Pure class.
- I wasn’t feeling so good down 23-7. We showed a lot of resiliency down the stretch in the first half. That Matt Rogers three at the buzzer for American to go up 7 at half was killer.
- Way too many unforced turnovers and missed layups. It’s been the story all year but it’s more frustrating to see in person.
- I think it was in the second half when Rogers tossed our guy to the ground (I think AJ) in the far corner. No call. Refs let the boys play but they missed quite a bit.
- The Mayock kid is going to be a problem for four years, especially if he learns to lift weights.
- The final score won’t reflect it but I like this team’s attitude (to borrow another thread’s title). We’re going to be ok.
- Let’s give them a proper Hart Center welcome during Winter Homecoming. Give me the entire offensive line with painted chests celebrating in the front row after a thunderous Bo dunk.

Chairbacks are like $50 each including taxes and fees now.

I totally forgot to tune into this game last night. I don't think I've ever been more checked out from the MBB program, and that's saying something given that I managed to pay attention to most of the last 2 seasons under Nelson. I believe we are headed in the right direction, as long as the portal merry-go-round we've dealt with lately comes to a stop under Paulsen. I think it largely will.
This will likely also be the first season that I attend zero games, home or away. My wife is due in 4 weeks (more likely 3 weeks) so I'm officially in stay-put mode. We thought about going up this past Saturday since she's a Loyola alum, and my 4 y.o. daughter has been asking to go to a basketball game. But we ended up doing some work on the house instead. Tempted to take my daughter out to Lafayette for the Wednesday night game but would have to gamble on her ability to get quality sleep in the car since it's a school night. Unlikely. Saturday 2/10 against American probably cutting it too close, we'll see.

Last night the freshmen had very little impact, so the guys needed strong efforts out of the non frosh, and it didn't happen. Batch struggled defensively (a shame, because he is starting to become a more well rounded offensive player); Kenney was decent but had a couple of bad turnovers; Bo was very erratic; Octave was ok, but also had a couple of turnovers and missed some free throws; and Louth had no positive impact. That will put you on your way to a 19 point loss.
While I said earlier I believe AU can be the best team in the league, they are hardly world beaters. Thought they played good D, but it seemed to me the vast majority of our turnovers were the result of sloppy HC play.
Have to be much better with the ball on Saturday - you really want to avoid 0-2 weeks if you want to put yourself in a spot to host a playoff game (paging Jim Mora).

I didn't watch too much of the game, but every time I did AU was showing full court pressure, which shortens the shot clock for an offense that already struggles. Also, you can't win in D1 without a center, and we don't have a center. We have a few 6'6" guys who works their tails off to cover bigger players. The guys play hard, which I appreciate, and they're coached up, which I also appreciate, but we will struggle to win many games.
