One notable item from yesterday, Begnini scored 20, Batch zero.
MacDonald was pretty much held in check after the first half. At least they figured him out.

I think it's fair to say that Batch has had a very disappointing Sophomore season and, with the freshmen coming in next year, I'm not sure where he fits.

He’d be perfect as an instant offense guy off the bench. I don’t think he has the foot speed to keep D1 guards in front of him. He also really struggles to create his own shot. With more offensive weapons around him, he’ll be better. But, he can shoot the piss out of the hall, and there will always be room for guys like that in the rotation.

This was a VERY winnable game. As was each of the other three service academy games. It looks likely that our first-round game will be against one of these foes, and as such, a trip to the Quarters is not unrealistic. My sense over the past few weeks is that the team is thinking too much. Just get the ball and play! I think that's what they did in the second-half against Bucknell, and it worked - very well!

I have wondered the same thing but the incoming frosh have a lot of adjusting to do and to count on frosh to be major contributors is a questionable strategy. For every Chris Potter, Mike Vicens, RP Jr and Garry Witts, we have had oodles of guys who contributed next to nothing as frosh. (I know, I am dating myself).

I think it's fair to say that Batch has had a very disappointing Sophomore season and, with the freshmen coming in next year, I'm not sure where he fits. Batch played 32 games last year, averaged 32 minutes per game, took 218 threes and made 88 for 44.4%. This year he has played 27 games, averaged 29 minutes per game, taken 116 threes and made 42 for 36.2%. That's 102 less threes attempted from one year ago. Has he missed GG kicking the ball out to him that much? Some say he has a difficult time getting his shot off but wouldn't that have applied last year as well. For the first half or so of last year pretty much all he did was shoot threes so opponents should have known what he was going to do and defended accordingly unless the GG factor was that great.

The drop to 36.2% says he was not the threat he was last season. Bo, Joe and Caleb,(a greater threat than last season,)as well as the freshmen, are also offensive threats. Thus, more threats than last season.

Oh, those were the days...............I miss them so much. The Hart Center was electric for many a game. Basically, you couldn't get in w/o being a season ticket holder or a friend of one and the games were on Ch 27 to boot. Seeing the NBC trailer out back of the Hart Center was a thrill. (ESPN was a twinkle in someone's eyes).

Thus, more threats than last season. Shooting 40.4 % from 3 for a season requires a lot of skill. I'd say only CK of the 3 noted are more of a threat to score this year. I expect Batch to have a bounceback season next year.

(ESPN was a twinkle in someone's eyes). Think about this: The students slept out in the old Fieldhouse in order to BUY their season tickets, and on game nights/days, there was no place else you wanted to be. Today, the students get in free with their ID, and hardly anyone goes.
Trimster, close your eyes and recall John O'Connor leading the team out of the locker room as the the band played "Give another Hoya and a chu-chu, rah-rah". Everyone was on their feet and cheering as the team went through the lay-up lines (No dunking! The referees were watching closely - especially as Vicens and Greg Gaskins got above the rim!) Like it was yesterday............
We'll always have those memories.

Igor. Bud Light Daredevils. Top officials: Ed Batagowski, Charlie Diehl, Mickey Crowley, Jack Hannon. Marc Albert and Bucky Waters in the house. Maynard Allen on WTAG. Fouracre and the Cooz on 27. One brief shining moment.

I believe if Batch was in Colgate's rotation he'd be knocking down shots left and right.

Gates may have been the inside threat that opened space for Batch to launch more comfortably. Maybe Gerrale exuded confidence that was transferable like when Brady took over the Buccaneers. Maybe Batch was looking over his shoulder less at BN than at DP. Who knows?

He should get much better looks next season with Tyler at the point, but he will need to improve defensively. I have a feeling that if you can shoot and defend you will play next year. If you don't do both you better be a strong defender.
