You could have said the same thing when Gilmore was fired and Chesney took over the football program. Look how that turned out.
Patience.
Paulsen is a proven winner and has a good chance of getting HC to the top of the PL with a few years of his recruits and coaching.
I've watched extensive videos on several of the 4 recruits coming in next year and I really like what I see.
I understand your frustration. Nelson was a horrible hire and did severe damage to the basketball program. Thank almighty God he is gone! But I truly believe that the next two seasons will show significant improvement.
I for one am willing to be patient.
DP brought in 5 kids and has 3 or 4 coming. Do you know something about us possibly losing one of the 4 signed recruits ?

HC losing its way into a higher conference seems counterintuitive to me. Also, have any been following the transfer/NIL money chaos in big time professional college sports? RP's comments on the state of bball were truly worrisome. The Spring '24 portal is going to be a mad house. HC ain't going there, nor should it. HC plays on even playing field under the same guidelines & rules as other PL schools. Yet other schools have produced winning teams. Highly rated academic schools such as Colgate & Bucknell have had good teams. Why are these & other schools winning while HC playing under the same PL rules is consistently losing? What can we learn from these PL programs & others? With a program mired in years of mismanagement and losing, it is going to take time to develop a winning program. HC bball has been hard, very hard for HC faithful - players, students & alums. I understand the frustration. The program is not going to change direction overnight. Hiring DP, a successful PL coach seems like a good start, no? But it's gonna' take time for HC to show real, consistent improvement. Peace. I would say one lesson learned is: never, ever again hire someone who has never dealt with actual student athletes. I had a chat with a former HC b'ball player...and a good one... at the time we hired Nelson. He thought it was a big mistake to hire someone with no head coaching experience. That turned out to be 100% correct, so I would add that to the "must haves" for any future coach. That being said, I'm still hopeful Paulsen will make progress. As others have said, patience!

I wouldn't be surprised to see 1-2 of the frosh enter the portal. I hope not, but I just see it coming. Retention is almost more important than recruitment now at the PL level.

I know nothing about recruits nor about the people already in the program. No inside information of any type. Just law of averages these days. People leave. Nothing more.

Then why did you put “3 or 4” incoming when 4 have signed LoI ? It certainly is possible for recruits to change their minds, but it is far more likely for freshmen to go into the portal.

Didn't add up correctly- forgot about Richards....knew about Hare, Boston and the kid from Kentucky. Nothing more.

I love you all. I will "Dislike' any post that mentions the word "patience," unless the context includes words like: "I have run out of..."
We've been trashola for fourteen, fifteen years maybe. I am not patient. Anything worth doing is worth doing well, not half-assed. I long thought (wanted) basketball to be prioritized, hockey to be prioritized, and step back from nearly everything else. It was the easiest to win, the fastest, and the closest, at the highest levels. No sub-divisions. No conference changes needed.
Now, the trickling water of the terrible state of HC basketball has weathered away the rock that is my stubbornness. I feel like we have to go all in for football, wherever that environment is (and that can be a Fool's Errand with a new coach/Chesney's departure, graduation of key players, and the rise of the NIL Nonsense™-- football may never be the same again). Maybe hockey as well. Everything else harms our ability to be a leader.
We don't aspire to be "education for everyone" in the classroom; we aim to be elite. We aim to be elite in fundraising and alumni engagement. We aim to be elite in community service, participation in the greater good, growing fantastic young people into accomplishing adults. Why do we then want athletics to be some roll-the-ball-out Mickey Mouse operation where everyone can have a nice time, get some sweat in, and slap hands after the game? Like the USA sending amateur basketball players to get crushed by Russian cheaters, when we can try to get the DREAM TEAM to stomp the world's asses... HC know what it means to "DO" something and not half-ass it.
