AS I have written the loss of Gerrale Gates was the major factor in preventing this year’s team to be more successful than last The freshmen helped and Kenney improvers but not enough To watch the team proved that DP was a far more competent coach than Nelson With the new recruits I am optimistic that we will see significant improvement in the next few years

Totally subjective, but I can't imagine teams under the Nelson regime coming back and pulling out a win like HC did vs BU or American. I see that as a sign of progress. On the other hand, we have yet to see in a normal recruiting cycle. Of the three Coach Paulsen recruits we have seen, one is leaving and the other two, while showing signs of potential, are still an unanswered question.

Very strong recruiting class coming in—with no relation to FHCBN- all attributable to Dave Paulsen and his assistants

I agree and see the team improving for the next 2-3 years. Watching this team's play it was clear they were improving (the West Point playoff game being a clear example). As our frosh become sophs (the year some say the biggest impovement takes place) I believe they will continue to improve. I have not reen our recruits in person yet, but if the incoming recruits have the talent some say that they do, this coming year might see HC become one of the teams that "no one wants to play in postseason" as they were under RW...and they IMO will improve from there.

I'm not sure if I see the improvement throughout the year that others have mentioned. The metrics would indicate that there wasn't any improvement. We entered conference play as the 353rd ranked team and finished with a ranking of 348. Also, we ranked as the #8 offensive team in efficiency in the PL and #10 in defense.
Anyways, I'm bullish on the incoming class and trust HCDP's strong track record of success at every stop throughout his career to remain very confident he's going to get this train on the track.

Landing a transfer with this class, will be a measure of DP & staff. Also if they bring in another 'talented' freshman, I would be more comfortable, long term, if he was from a NE hs or prep school.

Would this comfort derive from the fact that players from a NE hs or prep school are less likely to transfer ? That is highly doubtful. See Lue and Martindale. The location of the HS or prep school is irrelevant to the transfer decision. And getting a hs or prep school senior now is very unlikely

Go a nice "thank you" call yesterday from DEANDRE WILLIAMS. It was most enjoyable. He asked if I could to get to any game that was close to me to please come and support the team. Most articulate young man. A good example of the scholar-athlete that will represent HC well as we move forward.

I have faith in DP's bball culture... frosh year is a big transition for all frosh The location of the HS or prep school is irrelevant to the transfer decision. Agree, transfers have at least a year of maturity from HS/PS before coming on campus
And getting a hs or prep school senior now is very unlikely

And getting a hs or prep school senior now is very unlikely looking at this via another lens... 3 of the 4 freshmen are all stars in their home regions. In addition to families & friends who want to see them play, they have the beginnings of NIL profiles... especially there?

IS here any correlation between near home colleges and transfer destination ? I doubt it

And getting a hs or prep school senior now is very unlikely Grandison was from a NE prep school. Joe P. was from multiple NE prep schools. Both had multiple transfers in their career. Moving from home to a prep school could be considered a player's first transfer which could make the next transfers easier.

They are pre NIL era; 1 stayed 2 ys & all were not recruited or coached by DP their 1st yrs. In NIL era, so far DP has had 5 freshmen for 1 yr; 4 (3 from NE), are not (yet?) in the portal. 3 of DP's incoming talent seem to have the beginning of NIL profiles in their home areas... Despite the odds of successful D-1 transfer, 1st year success at HC would probably create a tempting transfer & NIL profile for them.

If a power conference team really wants an HC frosh or soph, we can't match their firepower. The whole HC community embracing all the players could give us a chance against an A-10 level school. A well coached, senior led team made up of less than phenom level talent that buy into the system over four years won under Willard and will win under Paulsen.

While Kenney made significant progress this winter, he will need to do more next year. With Williams and Singleton gaining experience and Boston's pass first mindset, our PG position will be more talented and deeper than it has been in years. Competition for minutes next year should be most interesting, as the freshmen push for starting roles. I would think that unless a player can shoot, score, and defend his playing time will be impacted.

I estimate the majority of HC student athletes come from private schools of some sort and less Catholic schools than before as there are less of them. Does it have any effect on HC athletics? Or are the athlete demographics similar throughout the PL? The league isn't very competitive so are we recruiting in the right areas?
