Today, the UConn men’s and women’s programs have a combined 17 national titles, while, other than Cousy and Holy Cross in 1947, no other New England college has ever won

Should we rethink hoops and make a larger investment of say $1.8 million - if for no other reason but to fill the Hart and be more competitive as a mid major. So yes it means leaving the PL for hoops
For football invest another $3 million and find a new FCS home after realignment of schools- the new league is equally committed to academic and athletic excellence- something the PL is not
The PL is ideal for all Olympic type sports, but not those that can produce revenue
Remember this is an opinion board or a menu of options

$4.8 million. Would that spending need to be paired with $4.8 million in NIL money so our Crusaders could compete in the new higher level league configurations, requiring an additional $9.6 million donations/investments every year going forward?

The closest Rhode Island got to the NCAA Final-4 was in 1998 when it had a six point lead over Standford with about a minute remaining in the Elite-8. It unfortunately lost that lead and just missed the Final-4 losing 79-77. Rhody however did make it the NIT Championship game back in 1946 when it was considered the more prestigious tournament. Lost to Kentucky 46-45 in the final which pitted two HOF coaches with Frank Keaney (credited by many with the invention of the fast break) and Adolph Rupp.
