Nice event during today's Celtics game. Several sincere and emotional mentions of Tommy Heinsohn.
Did raise one question, however. Didn't he do some games with Bob Cousy? Didn't hear Bob's name mentioned, never mind an audio or video tribute (there were a few from people that weren't at the ceremony).

IIRC Mike Gorman and Ronnie Perry Jr. used to be the announcers for a lot of Big East games back in the early years of the Big East

When he did sports at WPRI tv in RI, he also did radio play by play for URI men's basketball games on WPRO. Would have been late 1970's to about 1980.

I found out after I posted this that there was an audio from Bob while Wyc Grousbeck was on the broadcast. Will have to go back and find it.
Glad he's ok and glad he wasn't left out. Was sure he was on many Celts telecasts in the 80s and 90s after Gorman came on the scene. Cousy working as an analyst w/Mike on college ball? Not so sure if Bob did any college games, other than w/Mr. E on Channel 27.

When he left for the Celtics there was no comparable play by play college announcer.

Sorry, hope I didn't seem to be knocking Mike. I meant that Cousy perhaps didn't work with Mike on college telecasts, and edited my post accordingly. I agree Mike was great doing Big East and other games. None better.

In the early days of the Heinsohn Gorman pairing, Heinsohn was doing the CBS game of the week. Now, back in those days, the Celts were darn likely to be the game of the week, but I think Cousy did fill in when the Celts played when Heinsohn was away doing a different network broadcast

I think he called Bob Fouracre "Robert"

Slightly off topic- John Sterling retired yesterday. Boston fans who were annoyed by his Yankee shtick will always have this* to remember him by.
*have never heard Gorman's call of the event, not sure if it exists. Either way, the reactions of the Hawks' bench are priceless.

I think Gorman only did the Sportschannel broadcasts so, IIRC he didn't call this road game.. Kind of annoying during these great Celtic teams that Worcester and most surrounding towns did not carry Sportschannel.

Bird's best shot on this game was the three pointer that didn't count.

While at HC, I was a major NY sports fan in the heart of enemy territory. Even so, I was spoiled because I had Don Orsillo and the Rem Dog on SOX games, and Mike Gorman and Tommy Heinsohn for Celtics games. Great mix of exceptional play-by-play skills and chops, with the supremely entertaining insights and quirks of the color guys. My personal fandom aside, made me really love watching the games.

In Wheeler TV room in the 1963-64 season, the many Celtic fans insisted that we listen to Most on the radio while muting the TV announcers. 2 different games.

"Roughhouse Rudy" La Russo - Johnny Most. Preferred Marty Glickman(Swish) & Marv Albert. IMHO, NY wins the announcer comparison by a mile. However the Celts won the games. They were in in the stratosphere. Cousy, Sharman, KC, Sam, Tommy, Jim Loscutoff, Bailey Howell, and the incomparable Bill Russell(Gene Conley bench). And, Havlicek steals the ball. Red Auerbach was the best coach/gm in the history of the NBA. Are you kidding me?

The totally objective Most never referred to the Celtics in the first person

Johnny must have accused Kurt Rambis of pulling a "Stanislavski" on the clothesline play.
