Interesting to ponder that BOTH ownership groups of the two baseball teams in Worcester decided to sell within 60 days of each other.

Not surprising that Fauci is much like the rest of the great majority of Americans baptized into the Catholic Church.

We get home and away games with H&Y in football and basketball even when HC is in an ice age competitively like the post-Willard years in MBB. UNH has been pretty good but I can't remember the last time URI played at Fitton or the Hart. The Rams came to Worcester in 2018 but that was in front of 2312 in the DCU. They are in the A-10 and CAA and will play home and home with a P.C. but not an H.C. at least recently. Maybe that is changing in FB and there are games at Fitton scheduled after the game at URI next season.
Per the URI Football record book, Holy Cross has only played URI a total of ten games with nine of them being at Fitton. The Crusaders are 9-1 in the series with the last meeting back in 1988.
Per the URI Men's basketball record book, Holy Cross has played URI a total of 43 games with 18 having been played in Worcester, 21 games in RI, and 4 designated as neutral (not Worcester or Providence). The Crusaders lead the series 26-17 with the last meeting back in 2018.
For those complaining about HC not getting home games against URI, it should be noted that it has hosted more of the past meetings in Worcester for football and men's basketball (27) than those played in RI (22).

Does this mean colleges can then have these athletic employees sign non compete clauses preventing them from playing elsewhere in the future?

CCRI has multiple locations. URI is not in Providence per se, it’s in North Kingston but they did, probably still do, have some night classes in downtown Providence. The main 1,200 acre campus of URI is in the village of Kingston which is located within the Town of South Kingstown. Its 153 acre Oceanography School campus is on the water in Narragansett with dockage for its research vessels. The school also has a campus in Providence at two sites in the downtown (Feinstein and Nursing Center). While not an academic facility with courses, the school has the 2,300 acre Alton-Jones Retreat Center in West Greenwich, RI.

The first NET rankings were released today. There are 362 teams. Seven of the ten Patriot League schools are in the bottom quarter with six having rankings in the 300's. Given roughly 2/3 of the remaining games will be against other league members, the rankings for the conference are not likely to get appreciably better. #136 Colgate #202 Boston U #266 Bucknell #295 Navy #311 Lehigh #321 Loyola-MD #327 American #331 Lafayette #347 Holy Cross #354 Army Link: www.ncaa.com/rankings/basketball-men/d1/ncaa-mens-basketball-net-rankings

Lucchino's stated public intention from three weeks ago to sell to a "local buyer" didn't have much merit. By selling to a NYC based company with California ownership, Larry once again shows himself to be a snake.

Dayton population 137K, Worcester population 205K. If HC MBB had a four-peat NCAA run like football, would the city respond in any way close to how Dayton responds to the Flyers? I also wonder why Catholic Dayton is in the A-10 and not the Big East?
I highly doubt it. Just look at baseball in the two cities for an example. The Single A Dayton Dragons who play in a 20+ year old venue are outdrawing the Triple A Worcester Red Sox who play in a new downtown arena in a much larger city. One would think that a fairly new arena at a higher baseball level in a larger city would automatically translate to greater support. That however is not the case with these two cities.
As for Dayton not being in the BE, it is thought that Xavier is much against their membership. It supposedly has market concerns as the distance between the schools is only some 50 miles. Despite their long history of games going back a centrury, Xavier will not even schedule OOC games with Dayton since it left the A-10 for the BE.

The University of Dayton is always among the top programs in the nation each year for average home attendance of some 13k. They basically sell out every home game at UD Arena. Flyer fans also travel well in large numbers, especially to MTE and A-10 Tournaments.
As an FYI, the Dayton area supports ALL its local sports teams. The Dayton Dragons, a Single A team, had the second highest average home attendance (7,885) in ALL of minor league baseball. Only the AAA Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs of the International League outdrew them with 105 fans per game more.
The sports culture of the Dayton area is why the NCAA Tournament stages all its play in round games in the city year after year.

This will be the new CUSA membership once the Blue Hens join:
Delaware Liberty Western Kentucky Middle Tenn St Kennesaw St Jacksonville State Florida International La Tech Sam Houston UTEP New Mexico St
This league will certainly require a lot of travel for all sports. I cannot imagine that UD football fans, who typically travel in large numbers to away games along the east coast, will make a lot of future games outside Newark. This carries over to men's basketball as well. Delaware fans only had to drive to nearby DC for the CAA Tournament in 2023. Had they been in CUSA, they would have had to go to Frisco, TX.

Saw the headline for something in the Globe about the impending destruction of McCoy and the murals that hopefully they can somehow preserve; the one that shows the scoreboard with all 33 innings especially.
The Globe article was after the local Valley Breeze did a story about a new book on them:
'Murals of McCoy' honors McCoy stadium artwork

Larry is one of ten owners of the WooSox. He close to 80 and ready to step aside. Shoddy reporting by the Boston press has blown this way out of proportion. This is a non-story.
Isn't he however the principal owner with biggest ownership stake?
The same could be said about the parent Boston Red Sox having many owners but John Henry by far has the biggest share followed by Tom Werner. The rest are mostly minority owners with no big say in matters.

My good buddy from Providence College and I were talking yesterday about just what will happen when Cooley returns to Providence to face the Friars. I believe it will get obscene and ugly
You can bet on it. Some of the PC fans are the nastiest around. Beers and sex toys have been thrown onto the court during games. Player's family have come onto the court from their seats during play. Many Friar fans have for months been slandering Cooley on social media. They want blood. It is certain to get very ugly.

Nice win. I love seeing both Cooley and Georgetown lose.
I am old enough to remember watching Georgetown actually visit the Hart Center some 40+ years ago. The game was televised on Channel 27.

Worcester never had a Boston affiliated franchise. Has any non-Boston affiliated franchise ever survived in Rhode Island? Hope the Pirates succeed in Lowell, they need a smaller venue with cheaper rent. Wish them the best. Rangers were in Providence from 1926-1972...is that long enough? Better known as the RI Reds

The Massachusetts Pirates have announced that they will be leaving Worcester and relocating to Lowell. The indoor football team had played its home games at the DCU Center since 2018. The moves follows a well worn pattern for professional sports teams in the city. Many local teams have in the past initially started out well but the shine quickly wears off with attendance and interest declining with each continuing season.

The WooSox attendance went up by 180 per game average from 2022 to 2023.
Which was still some 2,000 less than the average attendance during best years in Pawtucket when the team played in a then 60 year old venue. The PawSox had a 50 year run in Pawtucket and the P-Bruins have been in Providence for over 30 years. Has a Worcester team ever had a tenure approaching either of them? The reality is no professional team has ever made Worcester its home for an extended long period of time.

Brown seems to know how to open a new Performing Arts Center. They had an event that featured the Brown University Orchestra, the Brown University Chorus, members of the Providence Singers, solo vocalists and violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman. Their Lindemann Performing Arts Center is a 101,000sf facility (much of it below grade) that includes multiple performance spaces with its main space being able to be adapted to varying sizes and configurations. www.brown.edu/news/2023-10-20/lindemann-opening

I actually went to the Ryan Center for the first time last night. A former player of mine, Cooper Creek, plays for Assumption. It's a really nice facility, would like to see another game there with a packed house. Drove by Meade which also looked good....looking forward to making the drive ovah the Newport Bridge again next Fall to our Saders play there. You might have to wait some time for a packed house at the Ryan Center. The program is presently in a down cycle. Some of the best atmosphere games are those against Providence College every other year. Rhody however plays PC in Providence this year and does not host again until 2024 (the game is typically always the first Saturday in December). The place can get really loud when there are big crowds given it is built in a more vertical manner with all the seats close to the court. URI has averaged 5,118 over the 20 seasons the 7,657 seat venue has been open. As per the typical norm, higher attendance typically comes when the team and or opponent is good.
A past PC game:
