I would not be surprised if this is the first step towards moving to many of the rules that were incorporated into the women's game last year, including four quarters and no one-and-one. Right now the men's college game is the only basketball in the world with two halves. There have been reports that the NCAA, and the women's coaches, have been very happy with the rules that have been incorporated into the women's game. I expect to see some of them in the men's game within 4 to 5 years.

Having quarters and the 1 and 1 is not mutually exclusive. Changing the foul rule would not necessarily create more possessions. On the 5th foul of each quarter all ft would be 2 shots. This could slow down each of the 4 quarters, not just 2 halves.

The goal according to the article was to increase possessions. I do not believe that many want to increase scoring by more stoppages for free throws.

While a great in-game analyst, he is absolutely insufferable when he gets on his rule change and/or pay for play soapbox. Just because college basketball may be the "only basketball in the world" with certain rules does not make those rules wrong. College basketball also happens to be the most entertaining brand of basketball in the world, and it would be better off focusing solely on what's best for college basketball, rather than making rule changes simply to try and match the NBA, FIBA, or anyone else.

What a the media time out rules in women's hoops? 5, 10 (end of qtr) 15 rather than 4, 8, 12 and 16? I would prefer the latter rather than the former even if the time outs were stretched out longer than they are now to make up for the lost commercial time. 4 breaks slow the game down too much. The one thing that sticks out to me is the overtime...you get to commit 3 fouls before it becomes 2 shots? That's a big difference...if I had to guess, I'd say under the current rules, a team entering an OT is in the bonus 90% of the time and in the double bonus maybe 2/3 of that.

Yes on the media timeouts...the women's games I have shot this year seem to go by faster to me (might just be looking up at the clock it is only counting down from 10). Especially the first three quarters seem fast
