Do the AD's and coaches ask the players if they are interested in extending the season by joining one of the less-than-prestigious tournaments? If fans think the tournaments (let's say the ones lower than the NIT) are silly but the players want to compete, should the fans respect the players' wishes or do the fans know what's best? For anything less than the NIT, In most cases, it's the coach lobbying the AD.

For what it's worth, I thought it was a good decision for HC to play in the LMNOP tourney. I thought it would be a worthwhile experience for a team on the rise. They had taken a step in the right direction. They had finally one a quarter-final game game. There was only one senior on the team and a solid rising junior class. The next season had to be better, why not give them a little extra tourney experience?
That being said, the experience for the following season was worth more than any wins in some low end tournament. When I went back to Brown, I laughed at the banner celebrating their participation in the tourney. I'm glad HC doesn't have a similar banner celebrating such an "accomplishment"

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Freshman guard Anthony Thompson (Glenn Dale, Md.) totaled 15 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals, as the Holy Cross men's basketball team posted a 68-65 victory over Brown at the Pizzitola Sports Center in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. The Crusaders improve to 20-13 on the season and advance to the second round, where they will face an opponent still to be determined on either Friday or Saturday, March 21 or 22. The Bears conclude the year at 15-14 overall.

At least no one came up and accosted me to my face that night

It is nice to know that HC has such a good reputation that Brown has a banner "cerebrating" their 68-65 loss to the Crusaders. PS: My thanks to any HC fans whose cheering may have helped to bring about that result.

At least no one came up and accosted me to my face that night 100% true. My brother, who earned his PhD at Brown and lives outside Providence, has maintained ties with a couple of faculty members there, including one who is a Brown basketball season ticket holder. Knowing my brother is a Holy Cross grad, he commented on the you, you, you
taunting from many of us at that game. Basic commentary was that he felt like he gone back in time to the late 70's/early 80's and that the cheering was passé. My response was that it's retro-chic and, yes, he could tell his friend that I attended the game and was part of the group in question.

Poorly worded. Not my brother, his friend thought the "you, you, you ..." taunt ( not cheering) was passé. And I have no idea where this person has travelled, but when it comes to cheering, has clearly not belen to Durham for a basketball game recently.

Great decision to play. They are going to be tough for us to beat next year. They will be tough next year - but not because they extended the season for another week ten months before PL play starts.
