It's time - actually a little past time - to once again bring March Madness to Crossports. We have a group in the ESPN Tournament Challenge where all us Crossporters can have a friendly competition for the best bracket. The name of our group is again Patriot League Cohorts and the password is plhoops. You'll probably have to sign in to ESPN first. My apologies for taking so long to get this going; I've been lackadaisical in my attention to Crossports lately - still haven't gotten over that night in Annapolis.
So, sign in and make out a bracket (can we all do just one each?) and let's see who's the top prognosticator. It's theoretically possible that there'll be an actual prize this year, but my legendary procrastination may preclude that.

If this is the same name we had last year, I'm in!

We have a five way tie for the lead after day one - good job picking 14 of 16 correctly! My upset special picks didn't get it done, so I'm again bringing up the rear. But, optimism reigns supreme!!

As always , my goal is to pick 8 lower seeds in first round. With few upsets , I will be closer to your rank shortly.

Another mild upset sends Ricky P packing. Villanova going down yesterday bankrupted several of our participants. SaderFan was our leader after Day Two and CHC8485 was holding a slim lead after Day Three. Still a tight race!

And based on the teams remaining in my bracket, I won't be leading for long!

Losing Villanova blew my bracket up. Some smaller upsets may help me stay near the top, but no chance this year I am afraid.

We've had a different leader after each of the first four days of games, with alum having a small advantage heading into the Sweet Sixteen. Two-thirds of our participants are in a precarious - if not impossible - position, now that Duke has joined Villanova on the scrap heap.

The Round of 16 got off to a good start with three exciting games. Xavier took down Arizona and broke some hearts and brackets. In spite of some earlier pessimism about his bracket, CHC8485 holds a slight lead over Make Shots and alum. Four more big games tonight to complete the Elite 8

With Oregon's defeat of my predicted Kansas, this whole bracket idea is a lost cause

Yes, the Patriot League Cohorts group is littered with many lost causes - mine included. With a stellar job of picking, CHC8485 remains in the lead entering the Final Four. Stay tuned for the thrilling conclusion to the Crossports Bracket Challenge~

Sadly, I have accumulated all the points I am going to accumulate for his year. In order for me to win, both UNC and Gonzaga have to lose on Saturday as there are entries trailing me that will pass me if either wins.
While I have no trouble rooting for Oregon over UNC, I will gladly yield the title in this competition if it's because Gonzaga wins Saturday and will be even more pleased to lose if they follow a Saturday win with a Monday win.
Go 'Zags!!

In a less than scintillating game, the 2017 Crossports Bracket Challenge comes to a close with alum on top with a very respectable score of 960. Tied for 2nd were hcnation and C-Mo. Congratulations to alum and thanks to everyone who participated! Next year, I'd like to do this with everyone putting up 20 bucks - winner take all - to make it a little more interesting. How's that sound?

Thanks for the work in supervising this. It is always fun! My $20 would be a "donation". I do not "gamble" since, after all, it is only gambling if you have a chance to win.

Is there a prize for last place?

I am happy to win anything so I'll take this victory. I would point out however, that given that I picked Nova to win it all and still won this thing, that I feel like Charles Emerson Winchester's proverbial "best ballerina in Galveston."
Good news is that in my other pool (one I have been playing in for 24 years) I had UNC as champ and won. I pocket $176. Woo hoo.
