That Rob Champion shot against Bucknell needs its own special award. I mean, good heavens.
At the very least, it wins the CrosSpy award for Greatest Clutch Play/Shot in my lifetime as an HC fan.

I watched the award ceremony this morning--very entertaining, and it was nice to see the student-athletes being recognized for their achievements.
I don't know who the player was who impersonated Tom Gilmore in the coaches meeting near the end of the video but he was outstanding--he had the voice and delivery down pat.
The more times you see the Robt Champion buzzer beater the more you appreciate what a fantastic play it was

I also love the attitude he projected through the PL playoff and the NCAA - hands up with three fingers extended after a made shot and a cockiness that came through. That sort of attitude marks him as a leader and can be infectious (hopefully). Watching last night's awards makes me look forward even more to the coming year and the changes it can bring. (I also saw that sort of leadership in Malachi - but with perhaps a bit less dramatic polish. )

Among the "games of the year" candidates in men's basketball, Bucknell and Southern, but surprising to not include the PL championship game vs Lehigh

The degree of self-confidence plays a huge part in athletic performance. I hope we see it happen in Matt Husek when he's posting up.

I attended last night, and at first I thought I was at the prom without a date (nothing but young people in suits and dresses), just like old times. Fortunately I decided not to wear my Sader Nation t-shirt, although I still looked like a slob. Made my way through the throng and up to the balcony; good show.
From the roar of the crowd, Karl Charles seems to have become quite the popular guy in his first year on campus........but there can't be too many guys nationwide whose "Cool on Campus" stock has risen as much over the past 2 months as RChamp!
Said hello to Coach Carm as I walked in. As tempted as I was, I didn't feel comfortable with hitting him with a few questions (he seemed to be a little fidgety;stepping out for some air as I was going in).

Yeah, Dave, had my invite too but thought we had to take care of the grandkids. Turned out we didn't but decided not to go anyway and when I saw the last half hour or so and saw the kids dressed up, I knew I made the right choice. I am retired and look to avoid almost any occasion where I feel obligated to wear a tie but made an exception for the Become More weekend.
Thrilled for Robert and his family and for the whole men's basketball team, especially the long-suffering seniors.

Let me add my congratulations to Robert, my favorite HC player the past couple years, on this fantastic honor. Looking forward to his Senior season and continued progress from the team.

And let me further add that his game tying shot against Bucknell ranks in the top 5 of my all time most memorable basketball plays - right up there with "Havlicek stole the ball" and Larry miraculously stealing the inbounds pass and simultaneously passing to DJ for the winning hoop against the Pistons.

I'll take Chris Potter's shot to beat Providence.

I'll take Chris Potter's shot to beat Providence. The Potter shot had much more riding on it in the moment and against a top-10 opponent/historical rival/national spotlight game, so THAT shot to win THAT game (compared to a quarterfinal PL tourney contest) is in a league of its own and rightfully so. But stripping down the magnitude of the game and the difficulty of the opponent - taking the two plays in and of themselves, and given the game circumstances, basketball IQ required, and difficulty of execution, the Robert Champion shot is in a league of its own and rightfully so.

Larry miraculously stealing the inbounds pass and simultaneously passing to DJ for the winning hoop against the Pistons. This play is in the same league as the Champion shot, IMO. Pressure end-of-game situation, great IQ, difficulty of execution ... it checks all the boxes that the Champion shot does. I'm trying to think of others that fall into this category. Any level of play, any game.

Nice that you guys are arguing among superlatives. Can you all agree it was the shot of the current century, since it is only 16 years?

The team next year is going to have a big target on its back. Bucknell and Lehigh especially will be motivated to prove our run and league title was a fluke. Their motivation will be more than the usual trying to knock off the prior league champ. I am sure they feel they were the better teams and were robbed.
Of course, I am sure the team would have it no other way and hopefully equally motivates them to want to prove that it was not a fluke.

I was clerking the Passaic County T+F Championships yesterday and one girl had a Bucknell shirt and cap on before her race. A top runner, she will go to BU on scholarship next year. We chatted about the PL and she brought up the PL tournament game. She said that several of the athletes she has met from BU brought up the game and said that everyone on campus was looking forward to competing with HC next season and "setting things right" as to which team is best. I hope that translates into better (and loud) crowds for each BU/HC match-up.

Curry had one almost half court game winning shot this season vs OKC. and his 3 last night clinched the win vs Portland McCollum had a terrific game, esp the fourth quarter

One of the coolest things about the Bird steal - If you watch the full video, after DJ makes the shot, there is no celebrating. DJ immediately goes to the baseline to defend the inbounds because there was still some time on the clock. There are lots of big plays throughout the history of basketball, but the sequence of Rob Champion - recognizing that the shot was an air ball - racing in from the corner to get the rebound - realizing there wasn't enough time to dribble it out beyond the arc - just throwing the ball out there for anyone to get - chasing that throw down - turning and hitting the shot has to be on a short list of biggest plays evah. To me it wasn't just the shot, but the whole sequence of events that led up to the shot

My only problem with your sequence is that I think Rob's "throwing the ball Out there for anyone to get" to the corner was actually a one long dribble which is all he had time for.

For sure that was an amazing long dribble, and clearly the only possible option he had to make the shot in time. To me the one dribble motion and that he was able to grab it at shoulder height I think was one of the more athletic aspects of the entire sequence

"Throwing it out there" might not have been the best choice of words, but he sure didn't use a conventional dribble. I assume he knowingly went with one very long dribble (or whatever label we want to give it) because he knew there wasn't time for a normal dribble. My point remains. There are lots of buzzer beaters every year, but it was the entire sequence of the play that made it phenomenal.

Nobody gets a full athletic scholarship to run at virtually any level.

Agree that it is the entire sequence of RC's that was AMAZING.
