Back to rowing: the men's varsity eight finished 3rd of 22 boats in the Murphy Cup races. I can't confirm how good the competition was, whether the other colleges sent intramural teams, whether Holy Cross got a head start, or any other facts that might, when revealed, demonstrate that this 3rd of 22 finish was an epic failure. I'll leave that to others to exlore and just enjoy the win. Of the two boats that beat HC in the varsity eight, St. Joe's is a varsity sport, UVa is a club sport. (Though I suspect UVa gets very good high school rowers from Northern Virginia.) aig.alumni.virginia.edu/virginiarowing/But most of the other schools would not be entered in the Eastern Sprints. The women did quite poorly on Saturday. Which has me wondering if a sanction was no trips to warmer climes for training over break.

I am hoping we can start a more positive thread for HC rowing. We'll see how it goes.

The negativity here lately has been at an elevated level.
