Tremendous game 1. There is nothing in sports that is better than a high level college basketball game.
As much as I've become a huge fan of Martin and think he's a tremendous coach, I hate the decision to not foul when Gonzaga has the ball up 3 with 40-41 seconds left (10 second shot clock differential). USC only had 7 team fouls, so Gonzaga would have been in the 1-and-1 for two more fouls, and by not fouling, USC is really limiting their chances to win. Basically counting on a stop and then making a 3, just to tie the game.
Semi-sidenote: This announcing crew is tremendous. There were several instances were Raftery predicted the next play based on his film study and understanding of team and player tendencies. A very entertaining call.

One of the announcers referred to "Gonzaga's international recruiter." What's that all about? We know there are two internationals (Poland and France) on Gonzaga.

Nantz is great as the play by play guy, and Raf with Grant Hill work so well as the color guys. Martin went with the confidence in his D all year, that they could get a stop. Believed that the Zags had too many good free throw shooters who could put their team up 4.

Really looking forward to Monday night, for what should be an excellent matchup!

I really hope Gonzaga pounds UNC big time. I will take a one point win right now that would really hurt after last year.

True, but Martin must believe for his team that this is better than being down 4 or 5 and having to score at least twice

Fouling when up three with under five tics left is widely seen as the smart play now, rather than trusting the D to prevent a three. Carmody employed the strategy a couple times last year to preserve wins.

By the way, I like how a big deal was made about the UNC kid who hit the game winner last weekend being in a 8:20 class on Monday. How many times have kids in the PL have to go to morning classes after 4-5 hour bus rides in the middle of the week?

Raff is terrific and always has been, but Nantz fawns over Williams like a 8th grader over a girl at a middle school dance.

UNC should be punished severely for its sham academics. Were not athletes at HC allowed to register for classes before everyone else.

Raftery is the worst--unless you like grunting and growling. When it comes to analysts, Cousy is the Gold Standard.

UNC should be punished severely for its sham academics. Were not athletes at HC allowed to register for classes before everyone else. I had not heard that, but even if true, that would not meet the criteria of "sham". Every HC student is actually taking the classes and doing the work. Comparing UNC and HC athletes from an academic standpoint is comparing apples and oranges

Tom my point was that athletes got advantages in choosing classes and profs
What did UNC coach do? What does the NCAA manual say about coaches involvement in academic affairs? And, by the way, I'm not saying North Carolina is pure as the driven snow. But In fairness which is something that is lacking often on this board when applied to other schools who can kick our azz, I need more facts.

But In fairness which is something that is lacking often on this board when applied to other schools who can kick our azz, I need more facts. Among other things, UNC for over 15 years had an African-American Studies department, used mostly by athletes, that had classes that didn't meet and often no coursework at all. Just automatic A's and B's for everyone with no real course. There is at least some evidence that Roy Williams was aware of this sham for years.

The system Holy Cross uses to allow students to enroll in classes. For all I know they may be using new software by now but this was the system I used. The enrollment period always started on a weekday at 7:00 AM. Effectively, students were at the whim of their ethernet/wireless speed when attempting to get into their desired courses. I personally always remember signing on in the O'Kane Lab.
