Sad about Queen of Peace. They had raised one million dollars just last year to remain open, but the high school will now close (the elementary school will remain open). Their athletic teams had rebounded and enrollment was going up again, but not fast enough. It will be interesting to see where all of their athletes (and those of St Anthony's) settle for next season.

Had heard briefly on TV that the football coach at QofP had just been hired - he was an assistant at Paramus Catholic I believe. Supposedly he had asked during the interview process about the future of the school and had been given every indication that they were staying open.

In a sense the school is "staying open' - but only for K-8. The Newark Archdiocese is getting out of the school business. Even The QP elementary school status may be temporary, since the Archdiocese is closing so many elementary schools as well.

Somewhat relevant maybe but several years ago saw an on-line article regarding the intense competition for student enrollment foreseen among Bergen Catholic, Don Bosco Prep, St. Josephs Montvale and I think either Paramus ( Paterson ? ) Catholic or DePaul Catholic all in fairly close proximity to each other in northern NJ. I wonder today how each is doing financially and if annual enrollment applications at each is down, up or just steady. HC has historically had some success with students/athletes from Bergen Catholic but don't know if that is still the case of late.
Aside from the above, anyone know how St. Peters Prep ( Jersey City-also some history with HC ), Seton Hall Prep ( Newark Archdiocese ? ) , Christian Brothers Academy ( south NJ ) and Delbarton ( west NJ ) are doing operationally ? AIR, Delbarton is a well-heeled but quite expensive school so they may have a solid wealthy family popularity.

Paterson Catholic closed about 5 years ago. Paramus Catholic took in many of their athletes. All of the schools you mentioned are doing very well. Don Bosco is in the midst of a major building program. Bergen Catholic is starting one as well (but the town of Oradell, never a supporter of BC, is doing all they can to stop or limit them. BC and their lawyers will get this done. St Joseph (Montvale), after a few lean years with enrollment is coming on strong - due to success in sports, especially football, baseball, basketball and wrestling. Paramus Catholic has risen with the success of their football team and they are no longer "co-institutional, but are now co-ed. St Peter's, CBA, and Seton Hall are steady in enrollment. Delbarton is well financed and has much success in a few sports (ice hockey, lacrosse, baseball in particular). They are more like an upper class prep school/academy.
On the down side, Queen of Peace (North Arlington) is now scheduled to go out of business this June with their last graduating class. This was a parish high school - throw back to another era (like Pope Pius XII in Passaic, St Cecilia's in Englewood - home to Vince Lombardi - and, St Luke's in HoHoKus...all now long gone.)

When I was AD at Bergen Catholic, there were Holy Cross coaches there every fall to recruit players. In recent years, more of BC's players go to play football at D1 schools, but HC has not been as active in trying to recruit them.
