Went on a tour today of the LAC along with Crucis. That's the good news and I had my camera and iPhone ready to take lots of pictures for you all of the interior. The bad news is that we all had to sign a waiver and release form and I did not notice until the tour was about to start and was advised by staff that we could not take any pictures and we had agreed to that based on the "small print" of the agreement which we signed. While they violated the agreement that we would all have to wear hard hats because they said there was no actual construction going on and I mentioned that I would be speaking to my attorney, I decided not to fight them and just went on the tour.
They told us that many parts of the LAC are ahead of schedule and it indeed is a large and impressive building or will be once it is done. The most interesting piece of it is the Athletic Director's office which is the only one that will have a window overlooking the field turf practice field and, for good measure, has a door and will have a perch/crow's nest/platform or whatever you would like to call it so he can get a better view. We were told that each of the interior steel beams or trusses cost $2 million.
The other news, which you may already know about is that the field house quonset hut will be razed and an entirely new one built. Apparently, the studies show that the cost differential for building a new one vs. renovating the current, 75 year old field house is de minimis.

Hart Center court. New wrinkle (or I never noticed last season) was the "@goholycross."

Again, from northeast corner overlooking Figge (and looking back at the webcam). Supposedly on a clear day you can see Mt. Wachusset.

"I acknowledge the confidential nature of Bond Bros. Inc. construction procedures and process and agree not to photograph, reproduce or divulge the same without the expressed written consent of Bond Bros. Inc."

That is the reason you could not take them Did anyone give a rationale for having to agree to this ? Why is this necessary ? Russian Industrial espionage ? (Hope this is not political)

The tour was led exclusively by Holy Cross Athletic Department personnel with no construction company employees in attendance. While that might have been the rationale for the photographic prohibition (not there to "control" things), it seemed a little too cloak and dagger considering the people on the tour were all HC employees or those affiliated with HC, the purchaser of their services.
That said, as one as ignorant of construction methods and equipment as I am, who knows if there were unique processes that Bond uses that an errant photo might be of value to a competing construction company?
Hopefully I am not violating the agreement to say that for me, there were piles of construction materials and equipment like you can see on the webcam only they were inside rather than outside.

Was there any prohibition against you coming to this board and attaching pen-and-ink drawings of what you saw? I didn't think so... Get drawing!!

Was there any prohibition against you coming to this board and attaching pen-and-ink drawings of what you saw? I didn't think so... Get drawing!! One more scary example of how much we think alike. I said exactly the same thing to Crucis at breakfast afterwards and told him to make drawings! He said he can't draw and I am even worse and can't even draw stickmen. My late father was a sports cartoonist for "The Tomahawk" [you know, the predecessor student newspaper soon to be formerly known as "The Crusader."] and did pen and ink drawings of Wheeler dorm when he was among the first residents in that dorm. He could have done it but he's gone on to his final reward about 5 years ago. His artistic genes went to my sisters apparently.

And exactly where were your sisters when needed ?

While they may have let Crossports down artistically, I am giving them a pass as both were too old to attend Holy Cross since alma mater was not yet co-ed, one was smart enough to marry a Holy Cross alum and both produced children who graduated from Holy Cross. One had two sons graduate and the other had a daughter graduate from Holy Cross. We will all just have to wait until construction is finished to take our pictures or just watch the occasional artist renderings. As an alternative fact, I am sure Phreek can come up with some pictures.

Maybe the rationale for the prohibition is the risk that a photo might capture a Bond "violation" of their contract.
Razing the old field house is sad for me. So many memories for me in there.....Commencement in there, watching Cousy & Heinsohn in there, watching Roy Leenig coach in there, seeing Goldwater in there, Junior Prom & Military Ball & Cattle Call in there, intramural bball in there, met my wife in there, listening to Glenn Miller, Lionel Hampton Orchestras in there, watching Jack the Shot's first days in there,......

We were told that each of the interior steel beams or trusses cost $2 million. " Saw the smallish track & field locker rooms/showers (nothing but toilets installed). Big, open room on 2nd floor (weight room?) overlooking the practice field. I asked about the windows and we questioned whether shatterproof since it would be behind an end zone and would easily be hit by a kicked football or baseball/softball. Was told that there would be netting covering the windows. Offices for Athletic administrative staff had pretty small offices on second floor with no windows (just empty spaces now with paper signs of what the room number would be). That's when I said to the guides "I will bet you Nate's office has a window." We walked further down and his office was nice size (2.5-3 times the size of his assistants) and as I said had a window overlooking the practice field and a non-functioning door and outside the door, over the field were protruding girders perhaps 8'X8' which will be finished for a platform so the AD can walk out and oversee the practice field - a balcony of sorts. On the first floor is a room that will be the video room and conference room for post game interviews, and team meeting rooms with stadium seating for 100 people. Also on the first floor was what will be a glass enclosed smaller conference room with one side looking west toward the Hart Center main entrance. It will be used for small team meetings and for when coaches are meeting with prospects and their families. If I think of anything else, will post later.

Some additional from the Saturday morning tour
AAD Kirsten Britton conducted the tour; SAAD Joe Bertoletti assisted her.
In response to a pre tour question about summer school, Joe said that although athletes will be taking a summer course it does not relive them from maintaining their status as a 'full time' student [12 credit hrs] during the season
Several women/athlete alums in the group
The very large training room and the locker [track et al] rooms underneath are on schedule to open in July. The large meeting/media room is for post-game interviews as well. On the far wall of the main bball arena [see 'sader '70 photo above] there is access to/from the AD admin offices… in these spaces there will be a large conference/hospitality room with view of the court, like Bud Ryan room. The opening ceremonies are planned for April; Fr B said the facility is on schedule to be fully functional next March.

Not sure which locker rooms but assume you are asking about basketball. We were told that was on the other side and due to ongoing construction, it could not be part of the tour. P.S. I am confident there will be hot running water, if that is what you really want to know, though none of us on the tour thought to ask that question.

Actually I'm really interested in whether or not the locker rooms are first class or of the type that we just left behind where one could believe there was no hot running water. I guess recruits are still being taken back to the dorms to shower after working out.
