Not sure if this belongs in hockey since the Railers and HC discussions seem to be a little interwoven, but since this has nothing to do with HC so I'm putting it here
The Railers announced they will be affiliated with the Islanders. This is a one year deal. If nothing else, it gives some extra credibility to the franchise

IceCats had an agreement with the Islanders at one point. St. Louis Blues were the main affiliate. They would get some players from the Islanders. I believe at the time the Islanders had no AHL team.

My recollection is similar to gks.
For the first year of their existence, the Ice Cats were somehow associated with two teams, Blues ans Islanders. By about the second year the Islander affiliation magically disappeared, leaving the Ice Cats exclusively the Blues AHL affiliate.
The team was sold to a group from someplace like Peoria and the the was promptly moved there.. Speaking to SoV, after a year hiatus, Worcester was awarded a totally new AHL franchise, that was associated with the Sharks. The Worcester Sharks and Worcester Ice Cats were two totally separate groups. Kind of like the KC Athletics and the KC Royals

Kind of like the KC Athletics and the KC Royals I don't recall the exact timing but I wonder if the dropping of the Islander affiliation coincided with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers getting off the ground. I believe they're still the NYI AHL affiliate.
