Very respectable effort by the Crusaders.....never gave up and needed a couple of timely hits to even things up. It was great to see the coach get his kids into the game and was well noted by the commentators. I hope some younger players were watching and listening, which could help recruiting for the near future. Looking forward to getting back next year with a stronger, experienced team from this year's exploits. Go Cross !!!

The team represented HC very well the last few days. Hopefully, this and the facilities will make recruiting a little easier and we can continue to build a very strong program that expects to play in the NCAAs every year.

A scrappy team, but a lack of pitching depth hampered HC -- HC used eight pitchers today. Really don't know what HC would have done if it faced OSU tonight. Methinks HC and Yale will be flying home together tomorrow. Though perhaps those players who live on the West Coast may head home directly.
Looked for a list of incoming recruits, found no list. This year's recruiting class was announced in September.

It is nice to be optimistic, but the amount of seniors, esp pitchers, does not indicate a stronger, experienced team next year.

taking another perspective on this team, in the pre-season we had the elements to do well in a regional where pitching depth is key. we just did not get years out of many senior pitchers which could have carried us in a 3rd game such as today's. no one can argue that Fox, White, Finan, Reese and Escobar all had pitched better in previous seasons. I know a couple of them had arm surgery along the way, but in the end our pitching was not deep enough to get it done.
There are six pitchers among the 11 recruits, but for now it looks like Cronin, McGowan, Barlok and Spada will be depended upon heavily next season.

Army is ranked so high solely because the site has tracked down 28 Army "recruits". Most will never even be rostered for them - but for lower-level D1 teams the rankings are almost solely based on number of commitments - 2 points for every recruit regardless of ability. The site has no clue as to the ability of most of the players at this level.

OSU beat Yale 8-1 last night to advance. The Beavers are tough.

Great season. IMHO, this years seniors had an exceptional (for HC) number of players who could compete (and win) at the Patriot League level. Last year PL runner-up and this year PL champs. Don't see that (exceptional number) in the Fr, Soph, or Jr classes.
Excellent coaching, again IMHO.

Our returning pitchers went 3-5 for the season (no analysis of whether these were in midweek games, games versus our easiest opponents or toughest ones, etc) and pitched 89 innings= 20% of the season total. They had a composite ERA of 5.66 versus 5.22 for the graduating seniors.
We lose 4 of our 9 top batters (re: at bats) --three solid producers in Critelli, Schilch, and Hassell and our starting catcher Voitik. Our leading RBI guy O'Neill returns. Returning batters accounted for 60% of At Bats, 59% of Runs, 58% of Hits, 44% of Home Runs, 60% of RBI, and 55% of total bases. They batted a composite .249 versus the graduating seniors .270 and slugged .344 versus the seniors .417. I did not check the all-important on-base percentage and I could not bring myself to check what percentage of our sacrifice bunts we are returning.....
Masel batted .290 and slugged .410 as a freshman--very, very good and hopefully he'll improve on that. Looking back at the seniors we see that Critelli batted .299 as a freshman and while his batting average did not change a lot by senior year he added a lot of power as he gained experience and maturity. Schlich and Hassell improved their batting averages a lot versus freshman season. So, perhaps Masel and Rinaldi, both freshman and starters, may contribute even more next season than in this one. McCormick will return as a junior and Russo and O'Neill will be bask as seniors. Of course there are younger players who did not bat a lot (and incoming freshmen as well) who will show us what they can do to replace the graduates.

So, will the LAC help our baseball team to develop earlier in the season? And, tangentially, perhaps help us land "better" recruits?

So, will the LAC help our baseball team to develop earlier in the season? And, tangentially, perhaps help us land "better" recruits? Difficult questions to answer, even for football, basketball and the rest of the sports that will use it. the only gauge may be the hopefully increased winning it certainly can't hurt.

does anyone know if ADNP traveled with the team to his alma mater ? I'm thinking 'not', because this was reunion weekend and his presence on campus was very important as he's still raising $ for the LAC and old fieldhouse renovation. Who would have predicted there would be this conflict. (If he was with the team, I think that would have been a mistake.)

I can understand why he was out there -- supporting student-athletes in a national tournament trumps a reunion weekend, no?

Not necessarily. However, I doubt there would be many offended knowing where he was. As an alum, I still believe the HC athletes and teams need to come first.

ADNP was definitely with the team in Corvalis. Charter flight left May 31 and returns today June 4th.
Besides, the better Reunion weekend will be this weekend coming !
Congratulations to the entire HC Baseball Team and program for winning the PL, advancing to the NCAA's and winning a game against #25 Nebraska !

The reunion weekend this past weekend was for more recent graduates, back to 1992. Reunion this weekend is for the older classes. The latter classes offer more butter for your bread, so to speak.
Nebraska flew home Sunday on Casino Express. Casino Express looks also to be the charter for today's flight.
