does anyone know if ADNP traveled with the team to his alma mater ? I'm thinking 'not', because this was reunion weekend and his presence on campus was very important as he's still raising $ for the LAC and old fieldhouse renovation. Who would have predicted there would be this conflict. (If he was with the team, I think that would have been a mistake.) Pine was out in Corvallis for the games. I can understand why he was out there -- supporting student-athletes in a national tournament trumps a reunion weekend, no? +1.
As it would be for any AD in the country.

ok, I didn't realize the older alums with the deeper pockets will be in town this weekend. the timing is excellent to show them the LAC and the highlights from our post-season through the ncaa tourney. I hope coach DiCenzo is available to interact with the alums. The marketing of our programs is a strong suit of NP, so he'll be on top of this.

For all you older alum/Crossporters, look me up at the Ignatian Volunteer Corps segment of the upcoming reunion. Not my reunion year but I did volunteer to be one of the reps of the IVC. We start at 10:00 am on Saturday. Not sure exactly where but sure it will be in Hogan somewhere [edit: room 409] and be on your reunion agenda. Will be with IVC regional director, Dave Hinchen '65, Kevin Ryan '69, Fred Enman, S.J., and Mary McGinnity '77, IVC national executive director. Kevin and I are on the IVC New England regional council. While I know if you join the IVC that it would put a dent in your Crossports post count, it is time well spent!

So, will the LAC help our baseball team to develop earlier in the season? And, tangentially, perhaps help us land "better" recruits? Hell yes. From a performance standpoint it will give them the ability to work on things in January February and it control environment which is huge. For anyone who knows anything about baseball just the opportunity to do long toss inside is hugely important to building up arm strength. From a recruiting standpoint this facility will look and feel so impressive to recruits. Interestingly, football may be the sport that benefits the least from this in terms of hours spent and performance. My guess is outside of a few heavily wet, snowy or rainy days later in the season and during Spring practice, they will go outside. I think for all of the other fall field sports the opportunity to utilize the space for off-season practice will be hugely helpful. And for the spring Sports it will enable them to be more ready to get going when the season starts in February and March.

To suggest it was a bad idea for the director of Athletics to accompany one of his teams to their first NCAA tournament in 39 years I find very misguided.

Ky C75 posted above some stats of returning players vs. seniors. another one that I can add is 'innings pitched' . we are losing 347 innings pitched and returning only 90. that is going to be a huge challenge for the coach.

That was my thought as well but while I played some baseball growing up, not to this level but figured Worcester weather could be negated to a large degree by the indoor facilities. We have a very nice ball field in the Hanover Park and to top it off with LAC, I am optimistic more long term . . . . just not the next 1-2 seasons which will be large re-building effort.

"Misguided" is a little too strong IMHO. We all know that Nate's strong suit is bringing in the dollars and that means tapping well-healed alums, most of whom have been out 25+ years. While I totally agree that his place should be with the student-athletes, that is both my opinion and yours. To think otherwise, it is just a difference of opinion.
FWIW, while I missed my last reunion due to travels, I've made all of the others and don't ever recall seeing Dick Regan at any of them. That may not be the standard to go by, but it probably shows the thinking that an AD really should be interacting with the alums in order to help shake the money tree.

I agree with hcgrad94's points on the value of the LAC. At least one, and I believe two, batting cages are part of the equipment to be installed. I believe the netting for the cages will be suspended from the roof trusses. I think the net arrangement may be similar to what is shown in this video of UNebraska's indoor baseball/softball practice facility, --a dedicated facility, mind you. University of Iowa converts their indoor football practice facility to baseball batting cages. Photos are small, so do a little imagining. www.iowabaseballcamps.com/camp-info/facilities-directions/From a Google search, these types of indoor facilities at colleges / universities appear to be rather rare, so HC would be way ahead of the curve.

ADNP was in Corvallis with his spouse. Only place to be for an AD. Was there for every inning of Friday and Saturday games.

One thing I do know is that Coach DiCenzo knows how do identify and develop talent. I have no doubt that whoever is wearing a Crusader baseball uniform will leave better than they came in. King is a perfect example. I believe he pitched a total of about 10 Innings as a freshman, and 3 years later is on the verge of embarking on a pro baseball career.
