Who will be drafted today into professional baseball ? Draft begins tonight. Have to believe King and Critelli will go in later rounds, based on their HC careers and Cape Cod experience. others from the PL will also get an opportunity, I suppose

The big early question is whether the Twins will take Los Angeles HS phenom Hunter Green, p-ss.with the first pick. There is another lower rated p-3b named Brian Morrell who played for the hs I taught at for 30 years. He came to my hoops camp years ago. If he does not go high enough, his back up plan is a full ride to UND Saw him play a few times this season. Imo, limited, I think he should go to ND and come out as an infielder. He has a beautiful swing-line drives from left to right.

Greene went second to the Reds. I predict the Twins will regret that decision

When healthy has done great with the DBacks including an All Star appearance.

That should not be a surprise. He will eventually be picked up. Talent often beats ethics in the pros and in some colleges.

The two other Oregon State starters went 31st and 131st (the one who beat us). Must be nice.

Going to be real hard for any MLB club to draft him - even in the 40th round, as the backlash would be intense. He cost himself (at the very least) somewhere between a 2.5 - 4 mil signing bonus given on where he likely would have been picked.

Wasn't the Maine program a high flyer for some years back?

I can't recall anyone with this sort of issue (a registered sex offender with repeated and admitted sexual assaults on a 5 or 6 year old relative) ever winding up in professional sports. Of course I never heard of a DIV 1 college athlete with that sort of criminal record playing either so you never know.

Wasn't the Maine program a high flyer for some years back? Always a threat to make the CWS before they changed the way they did seeding. You had most of the bad weather programs playing each other for the right to go. The Stony Brooks are fewer and much, much further between.

I understand that, but from what i have read, he has had a clean record for some years, and is properly registered in his home state. I would like to think that he would be treated as a pariah, but I see some team as taking a chance on him. That is based on past practice by so many sports teams. If I am proven wrong, I would be impressed by MLB doing the right thing.

I would be shocked if a professional baseball team was not willing to give this guy a shot when a college already has. Anyone think the professional standard of ethics is higher than the colleges and/or (gasp) the NCAA?

I would be shocked if Heimlich doesn't get drafted. Once you get to the later rounds, the odds of drafting someone who will eventually reach the major leagues is so slim that it's probably worth it to give him a chance. As horrible as the action he took was, he was between age 12-15 when it happened. Apparently has not had any legal issues since then and has been receiving counseling.
How many chances did Matt Bush get? He drunkenly ran over the head of a motorcyclist and fled the scene of this accident a number of years ago but still managed to have someone willing to give him a shot.

Got nothing to do with making the majors or not. Has to do with abysmal optics for any club that would take him, and comparing what Heimlich repeatedly did vs what Bush did is akin to comparing apples to bowling balls in the eyes of many.

Putting alcoholism in the same ballpark as pedophilia is crazy talk.
