87:
1) Not everyone lives in a 40 years ago time-warp like you
2) RP Sr. may be the only HC man currently in the athletics offices regularly who actually remembers Witts, so not like it would be a hot topic among the current HC set

I actually remember Potter, Vicens and Perry about fifty times more than I remember Witts. So I will give Malcom a Mulligan...this time. No offense to Gary Witts, of course. He should be proud of his NBA experience and I hope it helped him in his career.

OK, 87, we get it, you are a big fan of Witts and disappointed that Malcolm and others don't share your enthusiasm.
As for me, the Witts I remember much better is Katerina, who had much more success at what she did than Gary (no, she didn't go to Holy Cross but feel free to google her).

That was a good team: Witts, Logan, Seaman, Mulquin, Greaney, Floyd, Thurman, Browne, Elizie, Fitzpatrick, Maloney, Guerin (Sorry if I missed somebody.) In the regular season they won a ton of games including a Saturday televised game against BC the day after the point shaving article appeared in SI. They lost the Perry Moss buzzerbeater to miss going to the Dance. They then beat Southern Mississippi on a last second shot by Mulquin in the NIT before losing to Cuse in the second round. So, I guess I am disappointed that MM doesn't know about Gary Witts, but then again, a little research just told me that I never knew (or had forgotten) that Joe Mullaney played a year in the NBA, too.

Bet you looked that up, hoops. I knew the pronunciation and while I never took German, believe the "w" is always pronounced "v" in German. You get my larger point. No offense to Witts but a cup of coffee in the NBA doesn't permanently burn a spot in the memory banks 40 years later. Unless he was your classmate perhaps?

Actually, we'd all be fortunate to have lived a life close to Clarence Brooks. A much better person in many ways than our famous Clarence. Sez you.

Not for nothing, but how could MM have never heard of Garry Witts (as stated in the article)? I could see not knowing guys like Dave Mulquin, Tom Seaman etc from that era but the last guy to play in the NBA today before yourself? These kids today... Damn kids

Sometime before last season, his name (and everyone who was drafted or played) was written on the locker room wall. On some other thread there is a copied tweet from Wade's father that has a picture or Ryan in front of that section of wall. Obviously after Malcolm's time ------------------------------------------------------------------- There is another possible explanation of Miller not knowing the name. One time the Bullets played the Celtics there was a minor altercation. Amazingly not started by either McFilthy or McNasty. The radio announcer lost track of who started things, but the next time Witts got the ball, the call went something like. . . "The ball swings around to The Culprit. He's the one who started this whole sorted affair" Has anyone asked Malcolm if he knows who The Culprit is?

You must be from out of town. A common sports trivia question around Worcester used to be "Name the 7 HC grads to play for the Celtics"

A DNP last night, but a remarkable early win for the hobbled Raptors over the full Laker squad With two of their four best scorers , Ibaka and Lowry, hurt, the Raptors beat Lebron, Davis, etc in LA.by 9. Nick Nurse is a terrific coach.
