Lest we overlook another Crusader legend, the inimitable Togo Palazzi celebrated his 85th yesterday.
Happy Birthday, Coach!

Happy Birthday, Coach! Two huge talents born so close together...perhaps we should set recruit priorities by birthday!

Happy Birthday, Coach! Another incredibly loyal Crusader who truly bleeds purple. One of the best camp lecturers I have ever heard. Older Italian women from Worcester who knew nothing of basketball used to come to his hoops lectures at George Blaney's camp. Togo brought them to tears.

Now, not stir up controversy . . . . . well, OK, yes, that's the intent . . . one area that Togo has the upper Purple hand is in the area of coaching.
Togo was loyal enough to coach at his alma mater while the Cooz chose to coach at, ugh, BC!
OK, "discuss."

When Cooz was looking to coach, the HC job was held by one of his best friends, Frank Oftring. Cooz and Togo are equally loyal. No shade of purple comparison is needed

Cousy thought it would be easier to recruit to BC.

Cooz hated the grind of recruiting (at BC or anywhere else). That was a main reason he gave up coaching college hoops. I would see their respective PURPLE as of equal strength. Going beyond that is a bit like the debates of yore about how many angels could dance on the head of a pin.

You guys are no fun! I was just trying to stir things up. This is a discussion board, after all.
As for Cooz, he did a great interview in The Crusader with my son years ago and was gracious afterwards to take a picture with him which graces our "College Room" (now renamed "The Fun Room" for our grandchildren). But, but, but, while I know all about the Oftrig coaching situation, did he REALLY have to coach at BC. I know, I know, he was a Celtic for years and knows Boston and all that but still I ask - BC!?
So I will trot out my Cooz/Worcester Auditorium/TV HC-BC story once more. Along with a bunch of my friends sitting in the balcony, during a timeout, Cousy is in a huddle with his BC players when one of my louder buddies screams at the top of his lungs in an otherwise quiet auditorium: "Cousy, you lousy #%!?** b@st@rd, turncoat!" Cooz looks straight up at him and just shakes his head and proceeds to focus on his players. The rest of us are mortified and hope that the game was in commercial break and wondering whether we would be ejected along with the culprit. Yep, Cooz is a gentleman.
P.S. Happy birthday, Bob!
P.P.S. The "culprit" who shall remain nameless to protect the guilty is a cardiologist in New Hampshire.

We were 7-0 vs BC in his playing years, some by 40 or more. Facing them mostly twice a year, we did not lose from '46-57.

You must mean his years at HC, I assume. Under him, the Eagles were more than a handful. In his win over HC, it was his BC team that kept Rich Murphy from hitting 1000 points, making him mister 999.

No, no, no, Dave. This was well before your time! Though a "you, you, you, on you" might have been appropriate for BC "Coach Cooz."
