Monmouth beats Lafayette 31-12 (Seems like most folks picked right on UConn, Army, Villanova, and Monmouth....Colgate predictions a bit more mixed)

Nova win very close I'm surprised by that.

Bucknell scored 45 points on just 261 total yards- must have had great field position on each possession

Nova win very close I'm surprised by that. Why? If I recall you have been overly effusive in your praise of all things Holy Cross football. Given that your school and Villanova are at the top of the ACA and Lehigh is ahead of us these days, why would it surprise you that the Engineers and Wildcats would have a close and competitive game? Now that the Patriot league is at its full complement of scholarships I would hope and think that the Gap has narrowed significantly especially among our top two or three schools against non-conference competition.

Because I've seen the PL champion usually get steamrolled in the playoffs and usually by a CAA team. For example last year when Lehigh came to Durham and loss 63-21 if my memory is correct. I just think that Nova is a much better team and would have won by 14 pts. But as they say for every team in the country any given Saturday.

With Lehigh picked first in Patriot League by a wide margin and Villanova picked 3rd in CAA preseason poll, I gave the nod to Villanova but expected a close game at Lehigh.
But first games, who the heck knows how tight the margins will be? (I just watched CAA Stony Brook keep it very close with #⃣19 (FBS) USF for most of the game!)

Well, I'm off to a poor start!!! Batting .500.
My predictions Actual result
Colgate @ Cal Poly Colgate 20 Cal Poly 14 - didn't expect this, especially with long trip
HC @ UConn (think there's an outside chance for an upset but predicting a close loss instead) HC 20 UConn 27 - I nailed this one!
Fordham @ Army (my upset pick) Army 64 Fordham 6 - a shocker, for me
Villanova @ Lehigh Villanova 38 Lehigh 35 - thought it would be close but scores reversed
Lafayette @ Monmouth Monmouth 31 Lafayette 12 - got it.
Marist @ Bucknell Bucknell 45 Marist 6 - the large margin of victory a surprise for me.

In the midst of doing a big purge of old emails, I watched the start of the Bucknell game. First series, Marist QB threw an interception returned for a score. Either the second or third series, Marist QB fumbles in the end zone, another turnover TD. Wasn't particularly impressed with Bucknell's offense.
And the Bucknell announcers were insufferable.

I don't think anyone saw 64-6 coming at Michie. I thought Army would have the Fordham loss from 2 years ago fresh in mind and would win somewhere along the lines of 48-28
Seems to me that when the Rams lose, they tend to lose BIGLY.
Best feather in the cap for the PL Week 1 goes to Colgate for flying cross country and beating Poly, a Big Sky team that seems to be in the playoffs more often than not.
Solid performances from Holy Cross and Lehigh against strong opponents. Bucknell also beat Marist 45-6, their largest margin of victory in sixteen years.

Nova seems to be a strong team, Uconn's strength is questionable at this time.

Lehigh always plays a CAA team early in the season and it always seems to be a very close game. Nova also is introducing a new head coach, granted he's been on their sideline longer than I've been alive. Looking forward to our tilt in 2 weeks and continued thanks for your valued input on our board.

UNH fan: While there may be some validity to that, going back to '09, HC played Villanova, the eventual national champs in the first round of the 1-AA playoffs down at 'nova and hardly got steamrolled. Score was 14-14 at the half and 21-14 into the 3rd quarter and eventually lost 38-28 and, as I recall, that was the closest game Villanova had in the playoffs.
We lost to you guys in '11 at your place 39-32, again, hardly "steamrolled."
I think the game at Fitton this year will be a lot closer with an outside chance we will take the win but pretty sure we won't get rolled over.
All that said, I appreciate your perspective, insights and as I have found whenever I travel up to Durham, the UNH people are polite, friendly and welcoming. Keep posting.

[b Gentlemen appreciate your thoughts and a lot of you go further back then I do with football. I was just speaking to the last ten years as it seems like the sun rising UNH or another CAA team gets the PL champ in a first round game. I've attended most of those games in Durham and they haven't been close for the most part and these were good teams that came to Durham. As for this year's game I think you have a good chance to pull the upset as this is not a great UNH team. Lots of youth and a qb who while he was victorious last year I'm not sure he's gotten better. This could be the year are nation's best playoff stark comes to an end.
