I am ordering at $30 per pop the Kentucky, Kansas, Marquette, So Ill NCAA games. Not sure if it's VCR or DVD, though I will find out. I have been instructed I am not allowed to share it on you tube or even by mail with other alums. So, if you want one of those games, let me know soonest and we can work it out.
I am interested in the Jack the Shot era so I asked about the Colo State game, the only footage we have in Jack's time frame. It is reel to reel so it costs $$$. May be north of $300. May have priced me out of the market.
FWIW I suggested they get all this stuff copied and loaded on you tube. There's not exactly a run on these games. LSU 1940 inter alia and even a 1924 I think BC game.
As it turns out I cannot legally make copies of the NCAA Tournament films. I watched them this morning to be sure that they weren't professionally broadcast but they are. You would have to gain CBS's permission to make copies of Marquette, ESPN's permission for Kansas and I wasn't able to get Southern Illinois to play (at times the tapes need cleaning) but I'm going with that it is professionally broadcast as well.
In my 60+ years of hoop watching I have never seen anyone else shoot a total wrist shot with locked elbows. He had incredible wrist strength and jumped very high on his shot.
I remember this game very well. I think it was played on St. Patrick's Day and football tight end Jack Fellin put lyrics to the tune of McNamara's Band! "Oh there's Foley and Foley and Gallagher Pat and Ken McClory too, O'Connor and Canavan, Kelly and Slats to name but just a few, we're Irish and gay in every way, an Irish laddie's dream, the purple-clad Crusaders---a hell of a fighting team! “ Do you remember that?
From a friend who knows HC basketball like few others. I don’t remember the song. Do you?
Just watched HC win over Colo state 1962. Those were the days my friend.
I was there. Tell me if I remember this play correctly.
I believe it was the second half and Jack the Shot got the ball about 25 feet from the basket along the left sideline. He got ready to shoot and Bill Green came flying out to attempt to block the shot. Foley faked up and Green flew over him into press row. Foley took a quick look over his shoulder and watched Green go flying by. Then he calmly re-cocked his arm and hit the shot.
