From today's hartford courant on-line - talking about an offense that will keep our defense in our toes (and without enough time to make substitutions):
How will it look? Fast. UConn will use three and four receivers, rush to the line of scrimmage and run a play about every 15 seconds.
How will it work? Time will tell. It's quite a project to take on, and if UConn — a team considered to have first-team talent but not depth — can't consistently move the chains it will only be putting more weight on the shoulders of its defense.
"We believe in balance," said Lashlee, a quarterback at Arkansas in 2002-04 who has spent most of his career working with Auburn coach Gus Malzahn. "Sometimes people think balance is 50/50 run/pass, but really balance is taking what the defense gives you. Sometimes that's run, sometimes it's pass. We've got to be able to effectively run the football. Some games, if they're loading up the box and giving us one-on-one's on the perimeter, we have to effectively be able to throw the football. They go hand in hand. If you are one dimensional, it makes it a lot easier on a defense."
David Pindell, , a mobile player with a quick release, has been named starting quarterback. His skill set fits well with the Huskies' approach, making throws on the move, improvising by running when needed, using a quick release for short passes that should stretch the field wide, a strong arm for deep passes that must — with some consistency, at least —connect.
