Boys boys boys, this is a football thread. If we want to kick poor old ramses around about hoop then let's move to that thread. I bleed maroon but have to concede our successes in round ball has been spotty since the day of Digger. Our current coach may be a scaliwag but he isn't a used car salesman, a lunatic,or a retread fraud. Two coaches, Nick and Tom Penders in 40 years. Still prefer A 10 to PL, and secretly so do you. When do you predict that Fordham will win an A-10 championship or make the NCAA tournament as an at-large selection?

The kid quickly saw the handwriting on the wall after pre-season camp opened, and bolted. Going into his third year -- never having played a down -- he was slated to be third or fourth string. From his tweets and the remarks of the Indiana coaches., he sounds like a great person, wouldn't surprise me at all if the IU coaches didn't reach out to a few schools, seeing if they had a roster opening.. __________________________________ Morgan Roberts transferred from Clemson to Yale. Actually played in a game at Clemson. Red shirted first year at Clemson. Played second year. Transferred. Played three years at Yale, first year as backup QB and wide receiver. Certainly worked out for Yale. jhttp://www.yalebulldogs.com/sports/m-footbl/2015-16/bios/roberts_morgan_xmjr

HC Pride--I know that you delight in complaining about HC and its reputation for some reason. I just don't know why. Clearly, not enough HC pride.

I know this is the second consecutive time you have incorrectly corrected me. Educate yourself on the impact of 'test score optional' on reported board scores and then respond.

I am sure the rejoinder will be that because HC is SAT optional that those numbers are skewed upward and the "real" numbers are lower and beneath the Rams' numbers.

Clearly I know how to interpret 'test score optional' board scores. I have plenty of pride in my alma matter but I am realistic about our stats. alum seems to like complaining about me and incorrectly correcting me.

I find it interesting that some seem to know unreported scores. I believe that athletes are required to submit their scores and they may be lower and not higher. I also find the great interest in SAT scores interesting in so far as there is so much information about them and how they are not effective predictors of academic performance (present or future). I believe that HC is superior because on Mount Saint James more angels can dance on the head of a pin than they can on Rose Hill.

Nonsense. I did not get around to responding to your reply on the financial aid/loan issue but I disagree with your reinterpretation of your original post. You stated that some propspective students thought HC's written material was misleading, which I showed you was absurd. As to this one, since we have no way of knowing the actual impact of test optional, we can't draw any conclusions. Had your original post acknowledged that HC's scores were higher but argued that we don't know the effect of the test optional policy, that might have been fair, but you did not do that.

No. Wrong again. If the average reported ACT for both schools is a 29 (and it is), the board scores are higher at Fordham. Precisely what I typed when you incorrectly corrected me. I'm hoping this pattern ends.
(Nobody even argues against the idea that those with higher ACT/SAT tend to report them at 'Test Score Optional' colleges thus skewing the stats. rgs318 forgets I was comparing Fordham (w/similar number of athletes) to HC.)

Now I have taken a lot of guff on this board in the past but this is too much. I will not sit idly by while you besmirch the good name of my school with your snide innuendo and pompous sense of elitism. US News and World Report clearly rates Fordham ahead of Holy Cross in the key APP metric. In 2016 (the most recent year with complete stats to date), Fordham had 6.41 Angels per pin while Holy Cross had only 4.68.
These are facts gentlemen not opinions, now stick that in your old mamie reilly and smoke it!

I am old fashioned SAT kind of guy and did not look at the ACT's but, according to Princeton, HC's 25-75% range was 29-31 and Fordham's was 27-31 so, it looks to me as if HC edges out Fordham again.

1. You seem to ignore the point that SAT studies show that there is little or no link to current or future actual academic performance. My point was about SAT scores. Are those studies really "snide"? 2. UUNAW is a much overrated list, but you are right in that t hey rate Fordham higher. So? 3. Fordham is a fine school that I have followed since 1950 when I lived on Valentine Avenue, near to Poe Park. I respect all Jesuit institutions for the work they do in producing fine graduates. However, In the grand scheme of things I still believe more angels can dance on the head of a pin on Mount Saint James.

Silliness.
For the regular student it is and has always been extraordinarily hard to get into HC. It is and has always been somewhat hard to hard to get into Fordham. This standardized test score talk is missing the point. Progressive educators are finally starting o grasp that intelligence is measured in a half-assed manner by standardized tests.
Both excellent schools, HC just a touch better.

Read the very readily available info on test score optional effects on stats, update your ACT info (from Fordham's website: ACT Composite Middle 50%: 28-32) and look at prepscholar (both average a 29 nothwithstanding the 'test score optional' effect at HC).
Again: this was the precise quote you incorrectly corrected: "Higher board scores at Fordham now than at Holy Cross." Other commenters veered to a comparison between the schools, validity of test scores, etc.

freethef4, please post often Those who seem annoyed by your posts are just threatened. They are pathetic 99% of the Board is happy that you post Go Rams! Guilty here of a self quote but I root for the Rams; and always will unless they are playing us. I would welcome them back in the PL with open arms. That is not, however, inconsistent with my position that Fordham and Georgetown should be informed by the PL that every year each play three PL teams in hoops or Ba Bye

In Fordham's case that would be baa bye. I totally endorse the idea of FU and GU scheduling at least 3 PL teams in MBB and WBB and various other sports. HC v FU is usually a great matchup with so many especially in NYC metro area with mutual and complementary loyalties. Despite last year's score I think most would agree the Yankee Stadium event was special for both schools. I don't know who is avoiding who, but I hope I see HC on future BB skeds.

I can remember just before our last game with Fordham, hearing the Ram head coach say to a reporter that sthey would not be playing HC any longer because they felt we could not give them sufficient competition. The Rams then lost that next game against HC and have not played us again since. I am not sure their hoop record since back in that day warrants any further comment.

Do you just have to be able to spell Fordham correctly to get into that school? Higher board scores at Fordham now than at Holy Cross. I grew up in The Bronx a 20 minute train ride from the Webster Avenue and Fordham Road Third Avenue El stop. (Yes, I am that old!) Many of my relatives graduated from Rose Hill. I even had a Jesuit uncle who taught English there back in the day. It was one of the four colleges I applied to...the others being BC, HC, and G'town. Jesuits all the way, baby! Many of my high school classmates are Fordham grads. It's a decent school and better than many, no doubt. But if their board scores are now better than ours, that's cause for real concern on the academic side.

My mom went to Fordham in the mid 50's (her father was also a Fordham grad) and my sister and I went to HC (brother to Georgetown). All three of us siblings applied to the precise 4 Jesuit schools you applied to. We've certainly seen the change in the HC- BC relative admissions standards and survived. Some are still in denial about that (the change, not the survival). HC is still a wonderful place and it is more a question of evolving admission statistics at HC (and Fordham) rather that the actual academic side.
