we have been depending on football, basketball and hockey to lead our athletic program for many years (with very mixed results) while almost ignoring our minor sports. Honestly thought we'd show more progress by now under ADNP's leadership. Suppose there have been some small steps forward but based on the fall pre-season predictions, it's hard to see it M Soccer - a distant 10th (last) place W Soccer - 9th of 10 Field Hockey - 5th of 7 (our best team?) Volleyball - 8th of 9
No Polls yet for Men's and Women's X-C, although our women's team has been pretty good of late Forget M-W Golf and Tennis - always last in competitions vs. D.1 schools

Without knowing school by school, sport by sport, the differences between the PL schools as to scholarships and help with admissions, it is really tough to evaluate to what degree we are underperforming. I also don't know whether NP has any say over either of those factors. If he does not, it would be hard to blame him
Oh, and because I have not complained about it in a month or more, the track situation is not going to improve when we lose our indoor practice facility.....

M's soccer, Loyola received 152 points, Holy Cross 25. (I assume the max is 180, the minimum 18.)
W's soccer, Boston Univ 156 points, HC 43, American 19.
Field Hockey, American 71, Holy Cross 35, Colgate 12 American's field hockey roster has six players from Europe
Volleyball, American 128 (unanimous of all the other schools), Holy Cross 33, Lafayette 23 American's roster has two players from Poland, one from Denmark, one from Switzerland, none from California.

In most cases the pre-season polls mirror last year's standings pretty closely, so I wouldn't judge too much based on them.
Let's see the results on the field before drawing too many conclusions.

Just looked at the scoreboard on GoHC. We are 3-0-1 in our last four games. Two field hockey. women's soccer and men's soccer. Combined score in the four games was 8-0.

Thank goodness for Lafayette who usually comes to the rescue of any of our slumping teams ('Pards fans are anxiously waiting for their PTB report on a plan to be respectable in the PL). Laf's volleyball team comes to HC (3-10 record) tonight and their women's soccer is in town vs HC (2-5-1) tmro.

The volleyball match was actually in Easton, and we lost 3-1. not good Lehigh will beat us today as they are much better. A lot is disparity across the league in this sport

to add insult to injury after that debacle at fitton field, our minor sports continue to struggle and show no signs of competing for any league title
= thanks to Lafayette (1-8 record), our men's soccer team (3-4-2, 1-0-1 league) notched a big win 2-0 on friday. tougher matches lie ahead = field hockey (5-6, 2-1 league) played well, losing at American 3-2, after leading 2-0 in the 2nd half (our best chance for a playoff team this fall) = women's soccer (2-7-2, 0-3-1 league) lost at home to Bucknell 3-0 = women's volleyball (3-14, 0-4 league) on an eight match losing streak was beaten badly at home vs. American and Navy = men's tennis lost to siena 7-0 (but hey, two of the matches were close) = women's tennis lost 5 of 6 doubles matches vs. d. 2 and 3 schools in Newport, R.I., and then lost to Providence 5-1. = M & W cross country competed admirably at Lehigh (our women are the stronger team and finished 30 of 42 schools, but the competition came from all over the country) = women's golf finished 11th of 13 schools at Univ of Hartford tourney
I wonder of ADNP has a plan to improve our competitiveness in the PL. Nothing has changed since he came on board.

Oh, I forgot to mention today's big men's tennis match at d.3 Endicott. We were not able to pull off the upset, losing 7-2. It takes a concerted effort to be this embarrassingly bad.

Men's golf is killing it too. Just finished 14th out of 14 schools in a tournament at the Quechee Club in VT last week.

An illustration of the absolutely pathetic lack of attention to one of our minor sports (for which we actually give athletic aid, if you can believe it!). our volleyball team (3-14 record) have home matches this weekend vs. colgate and army. our all time records are 6-47 vs. 'gate and 6-50 vs. army. I guess we can give the school some credit for living up to this apathy by including the records on the preview posted today. Hey, let's get wins no. 7 ! Gotta start somewhere.

men's soccer had a very good win vs. bucknell last weekend, but lost last night to a strong uri team 2-0. a 'must' win game vs. a weak American team this saturday at home as remaining league games are all tough. women's soccer, winless in their last 7 matches lost to dartmouth last night 3-2. also playing american in d.c. on saturday. we have a very good chance to halt the streak there. volleyball is terrible. not competitive last weekend. abv all-time records are now 6-48 vs. 'gate and 6-51 vs. AWP. field hockey lost at Columbia 5-1 (can we beat an Ivy in 'anything' ?), No. 23 nationally Boston U comes to Worcester Friday night. Still our best crack at a playoff team.

Women's hockey down 9-1 in the closing minutes. At least they scored, unlike some other teams.
