Attendance reported as 7906.
With video out until livestream saved the day, there was a panning shot in the middle of the third quarter which showed the entire HC stands. I would understand that HC fans might have wandered off at halftime or early in the third if the score had been reversed.
Very generously, from that one camera pan, looked to be no more than 5000 on both sides.. Perhaps those who were there might comment.

Attendance-wise....this should have been a night game. We basically pulled out all the stops today: "Worcester Day," a good start to the season on the field, a ranked local opponent, nice weather (for fans) but could only get 7 or 8K. (My excuse for not attending btw....a golf outing that was cancelled this morning ).......moving forward, if we want to actually draw fans, we have to have 3:30 and/or 7 starts for these games outside of Homecoming and Family Weekend.

You're enjoying this win aren't you? The thing is, no one wants HC to win at football or basketball more than myself (and I'm sure, many equally here)....it was a nice win today, enjoy it.....let's see how the season plays out.

Many people believe that a winning team will bring fans. after today's great victory we can see if that holds true in coming weeks

Following this big win with a win at Dartmouth is one way to start building a fan base. Last year some of us believed that could happen after our win over Harvard, but we lost the next time out. Massey sees the Dartmouth game as a virtual tossup. It should be a good contest and I hope we can actually see it streamed. If this defense continues, the Big Green should fall.

I was really shocked how low the attendance was for yesterday. I remember a Thursday night game about five years back between these two teams and I had to park up at the basketball complex because there was no where else to park. Yesterday parking was easy with every lot appeared to have openings. I would be shocked if there were 7k in that stadium yesterday as if there were half must half left or got lost after halftime. Any plans to do any renovation work to your stadium? I would think adding some purple chair backs to at least the home side would spruce it up a bit and could help the Cross bring in some more revenue. I was also surprised with the lack of concessions. As there was none on the visitors side besides the ice truck that ran out of water yesterday. Are there better concessions on the home side?

Visitor side rather sparse as well. We may spruce up Fitton Field someday but right now a lot of money is going into the building at the top of the hill. And yeah, they ran out of water on our side too. Great game though!

The lack of UNH attendance was shocking to me. You would think a school with probably fifty thousand or more alumni parents and Friends within 50 miles of Worcester would turn out to watch the #9 team in the country and their closest road game of the year.

The home side had nothing to brag about. "People in glass ...... In related threads in another subforum, there have been repeated claims that UNH [and one or two other named schools] 'travel well' and will boost the attendance at games in the DCU.

As a fan of a state university that ranks 49/50 for state aid I understand. I'm guessing that being a private school the Cross could raise funds for a renovation much quicker. To me Fitton with some work, purple and chair backs could be something special for your community.

The biggest issue with improvements would be the need to bring so many things up to ADA Standards and current building codes if some/any changes are made to there stadium. We have failed to address that need for too long, I am afraid.

To me Fitton with some work, purple and chair backs could be something special for your community. We just spent almost $100M building and renovating other parts of our athletic facilities that will benefit football and all of our other athletic teams. The playing surface at Fitton is beautiful though the amenities for the fans and the locker rooms are lacking. If we're winning, fans won't be too concerned about the concessions or the ancient toilets. With state-of-the-art supporting facilities, recruits should be able to overlook the Fitton locker rooms in which they are present for a total of 90 minutes each season. I'm sure updating the football stadium is on our list of things to do. One other complicating factor that has been mentioned by others is that, if we do any renovations to Fitton, we'd have to make it ADA-compliant which would add significantly to the cost.

Terrific day other than being hot as a MF'er, and only one concession stand open after half inside Fitton??? And that one stand had nothing more than pretzels and soda?! Had to go outside of the west end zone to get anything else, which is a hassle for anyone there with young kids or the elderly.
Good to see a number of posters, and nice to meet Sader1970 as well.

3,812 at URI to watch them beat Harvard. Previous week 5100 at URI to see them lose to CAA rival Stony Brook University. URI Stadium looked full on the web (v CAA rival SBU last week) but it does seat 6500.

Start times are a significant issue that hopefully will be addressed down the line. Probably will need lights (where have I heard that before ) to do anything effective. For example, yesterday's game was over around 4:30. If the start time was 3:00 then we are talking about 6:30. On cloudy days this time of year it's dark at 6:30, sunny days you get maybe 30 minutes more. Overtime is a possibility too and you have to allow another 30 minutes for that I think. And, of course, the situation gets worse week after week as the season goes along.

3,812 at URI to watch them beat Harvard. And you have them playing what's become a year-in-year-out good Harvard team playing 75 miles or so from home.

But what's Rhody's percentage of students divided into the capacity of the stadium multiplied by the square root of 22? That's we really need to know.

For a school of under 3k students, and in an era of soccer games and computer screens, HC has an awesome attendance and fan base. Problem is simple - our stadium is too grand. Was not really full except for BC. Totally agree with cutting out some seats or making the whole thing spacious and comfortable seat backs. Not just part of it - the whole thing. That would help kill some dead space and spread the crowd more evenly around the bowl. Part of the issue is that people crowd together in the bleachers. This would more evenly distribute people and would be soooooo much more comfortable. You'd attract fans on this basis alone. Those aluminum bleachers are either hot or cold and brutal on the ass. Would that and a modern scoreboard trigger ADA?

Sadly I think the fan base has just gotten used to being ranked as I believe we had the second longest streak for being ranked. UNH seems to travel well for CAA games and FBS but besides that not so much. Not sure how to explain it heck we still have trouble getting people to stop drinking to come into the game. This week with homecoming will be a great example. Their will be over 25k tickets sold and maybe a qtr will leave the tailgate.
