HC has now lost their last 6 matches and has been outscored 18 sets to only 2 (since a 3-1 win over Rider on September 9). Each of the lost sets has been close but the inconsistency of HC has been its downfall. They are not being totally outclassed (as had been the case in some recent seasons) but they are still a step or two away from "respectability." Their next match is on Friday (9/29) against American - the first of four straight home PL matches.

Some liberty taken on the AA site when they headline 'women look to extend winning streak' - What ? ! After losing 13 consecutive matches (9 of them by shutout) team is now 4-19 overall and 1-9 in PL after beating Lafayette last Saturday. This coach has only been here 3 years but ADNP might have to examine this program again after his football hire is finished. D.3 quality for decades.

Volleyball has had some dramatic changes under the new coach (now in her third year). There have been some significant changes in the roster -- whether caused by [1] players recruited by the former coach deciding to leave to program, or [2] the coach encouraging those players to leave either overtly or by playing her own recruits ahead of them. Last year's class had 2 very good seniors, but the player who seemed to me to be the best underclassman on that team is no longer on the roster.
The result is that this year the starting lineup is heavily dependent on freshmen -- the roster has expanded to 18 players but is comprised of 12 freshmen, 1 sophomore, 3 juniors, and 2 seniors. If you look at the cumulative season statistics, 5 of the 6 players with the most sets played are freshmen.
I have no direct contact with the program, so this is speculation on my part. It seems that the coach decided to go on a major recruiting push (probably with AD approval) and is looking to develop the freshmen into a winning program as they get experience and mature. We'll know in about two years if this approach will be successful. I do think in fairness that my impression is that although the overall record is abysmal it does seem that most matches are close and the team is not getting "blown out" by the opponents. That does offer some hope that as the team members mature and improve future results will be better.

After watching some of the matches, I believe that inconsistency is a real issue (as it typically is with frosh playing a big role). At times the team as operating like a well oiled machine and suddenly there would be lapses that allowed an opponent to come from several points down to the lead. I see some improvement and I believe that there may be better times ahead for volleyball.

Last winning season was 1989 - 28 years ago. Since then, they've lost 20+ games nineteen times, including ten of the last eleven seasons. Speaking of "D3 quality," the previous coach, Erin Cady, went from here to coach Bowdoin and won a NESCAC championship her first year, making it to the Elite 8 in the NCAA tournament.

I think this reinforces the common opinion of the complete lack of support/resources. Cady's success possibly evidences this point. On the other hand, CTG's results a different case already exhaustively discussed in football threads.
