(I moved this college admission news from "General Discussion inasmuch as Villanova may be or may have been a competitor school with Holy Cross... )
Villanova has added Early Decision beginning with the Class of 2022. This differentiates them from their primary Catholic rivals (Georgetown, Boston College, and Notre Dame) who remain solely Early Action.
One imagines this will result in improved statistics (selectivity, yield, etc.) in a school which has already seen its reputation increase over the last 10-15 years.
The previous class (class of 2021) of admitted applicants was certainly impressive:
•Applications Received: 21,109
•Targeted freshman class size: 1,670 •Percentage of admitted freshman applicants who ranked in the top 10 percent of their high school class (where rank is given): 80
•Percentage of admitted freshman applicants who ranked in the top 20 percent of their high school class: 96 •The middle 50 percent range of SAT scores was 1360-1480/1600.
•The middle 50 percent range of the composite ACT score was 31-34/36 •The middle 50 percent GPA was: 4.00-4.44/4.00 on a weighted scale

Don't you have just wished you had gone to Villanova instead of Holy Cross? That way you could post on their board how your alma mater has closed the gap (and overtaken?) that little Jesuit college that used to be a grand example of Catholic education but has disappeared from the face of high school counselors nationwide. And your basketball and football teams are better too!
Perhaps consider changing your Crossports' name to "'novapride?"

Holy Cross is still a very good school. Perhaps consider changing your Crossports' name to "drama1970"?

Perhaps. Or perhaps not. I may just have more invested in Holy Cross than you. Perhaps not?
Holy Cross can and should always look to do and be better. Certainly a better job of getting the word out about Holy Cross and its successes should be looked at. The constant drumbeat that Holy Cross has fallen is something that I hear and read mostly from people who don't interact with the current students and recent grads. I can tell you that these young people are equal or better than the what they were in my day - not worse. And, while I have absolutely nothing against Villanova, which is a fine school, I find it tiresome hearing here how they have surpassed, or at least equaled Holy Cross. One can pick and choose polls, surveys and statistics to "prove" their case, either way.
As for me, I am as proud of Holy Cross as I have ever been. I will admit my bias. Do you have any biases yourself? No need to answer that. Just consider when you post things that unfavorably compare Holy Cross to Villanova, BC, ND, etc., why you are doing that.

Perhaps. Or perhaps not. I may just have more invested in Holy Cross than you. Perhaps not? Yeah, I don't take it personally if someone points out the football team or the college's academic reputation or the physical skyline with the Luth isn't what it once was. No drama. I know things change for better and for worse and perspectives therein differ. Beyond that, I don't think it is a good thing to adopt Early Decision as Villanova is doing. At all. As I noted, it is sure to improve their stats (selectivity and yield) but I don't like the way it puts the prospective students over a barrel and might disadvantage those with financial need. Georgetown's Early Action Model (wherein students cannot simultaneously apply to another school's binding Early Decision but can wait to hear from other schools' nonbinding Early Actions and Regular Decisions...and financial aid offers) seems a better compromise between the realistic needs of the college and fairness to the applicant. (I know it is the individual student's choice to enter Early Decision to receive an early notification but it nevertheless smacks of unfairness.)
