Probably has to take a hiatus from classes for this job I believe he has taken one of the suddenly vacant assistant positions

This is great news--RJ will add some class to a program that needs it desperately.

Kind of interesting that Louisville would quickly hire someone sort of from the Pitino tree.

If you mean Padgett, he was the choice of the team, available and very willing as his first head job.

If you mean Padgett, he was the choice of the team, available and very willing as his first head job. I was referring to RJ. Actually, this is my bad. I thought the school might want a new outside hire to be outside the Pitino tree to distance themselves from the scandal. After some brief checking, RJ was hired last spring by Pitino

RJ joins the staff permanently - well at least for the season.

That is quite an accomplishment. They had been looking for a few weeks.

Do you think RW had any influence in this hire? Good for RJ!

Do you think RW had any influence in this hire? Good for RJ! I think it very likely for the original hire. I'm not sure how RJ would have been on Pitino's radar without some input from Coach Willard. At the very least, if RJ went knocking on Louisville's door, Pitino gave his old buddy a call. In terms of his promotion to acting assistant coach, I'm sure after working together all summer, Padgett knew RJ well enough to not look for additional input on the promotion

Saturday's C-J's Sports Section's lead was "Cards Staff grows Again" --"Evans becomes acting assistant coach". RJ attended a news conference with Coach Padgett to tell about the new position. The article states that RJ has two masters degrees , one in educational psychology and one in kinesiology, and is working on his MBA at U of L. "Evans said he could relate to the tumult Louisville's players are living through because he had four different head coaches in five years of college..... Asked about his coaching influences, Evans rattled off two coaches with national titles and two others with familiar names: Shaka Smart, Jim Calhoun, Kevin Ollie, and Ralph Willard."
