I wish Coach Tom Gilmore nothing but the best. This move had to happen as HC Football is currently on life support. Lee Hull next HC?

The moderator of the voy forum, who I believe went to Yale posted last night that word had it that Gilmore was gone by year's end. The Yale coaching staff probably knew this, and played the second half with the brakes on.

Tony Reno gets a lot of kudos for the way he handled the game yesterday....32-0 was not close to how bad it could have been.

Will wonders never cease! This has been coming for a long, long time. Much too long, in point of fact. I would hope that Pine has been quietly spending quality time to assess potential head coach replacements and that we are not starting from square one. And I hope the College will be willing to spend reasonable amounts of money to recruit the right man and staff. That's where success starts.

Definitely mixed emotions. Always tough to see someone who has worked very hard and run a clean program lose his job but it has been clear for the last several seasons that we were not really moving forward as a program and some of the in-game decision-making has been very poor.
I hope we can find the right guy. If not, I may be among those advocating that we shut it down 5-10 years from now which I never would have imagined possible given my strong allegiance to the program since the mid-1980s. Right now, the costs of the football program are definitely outweighing the tangible and intangible benefits.

New QB, new HC, tough schedule.

I just learned about this from an email sent to the Crusader Fund donors. I have mixed emotions. Coach Gilmore has always been a class act and a great credit to Holy Cross, even though our record has not been what we want. As Breezy noted, "He has poured heart and soul into Holy Cross since he came here in 2004. His lack of success is not due to lack of effort or commitment." I agree.
Thank you, Coach Gilmore, for all of your efforts on behalf of Holy Cross. No one could have worked harder or with greater sincerity.

How much tougher can it be? We’re at rock bottom. Nowhere to go but up.

I wish Coach Rock all the best as he now takes HC into our last 4 PL games as interim head coach.
I feel bad for Coach Gilmore, but it was clearly time. I wish him all the best and thank him for all he gave for years to HC (including a PL championship). I hope his perpetual critics, now that they have what they have wanted for so long, do not try to pile on or to rehash their earlier comments. I am sure this was hard for ADNP, but he made a necessary move for HC and for these players.

Nice guy awful coach. Only took 3 years!! If we were going for a mid-season fire, they should have made the move after the Lafayette mess

I'll also add for those people who have been calling for this move forever, that, just because it happened now, doesn't mean you were right all along.

The right time was after an @lehigh game a couple years ago that was a disaster followed soon thereafter by a three year extension given by ADNP.

Impressed by the charity extended by my fellow HC supporters. Regardless of your feelings toward TG, this was a gutsy move by ADNP. I have sent a small contribution as a symbol of my gratitude for his willingness to make a bold move. I think he sent a great statement to all recruits and alumnae. Any donation at this time no matter how small I am sure would send a positive message toward NP

It had to be done and it had to be done now. It would have been a mistake to wait until the end of the season in mid November due to the time it takes to get the new coach and then for that coach to evaluate the staff and the committed/non-committed recruits and make the right decisions before the early signing period. Best wishes to TG.

In my few communications with TG he was always kind, considerate and a true gentleman. He was an asset to the Holy Cross community at large. I wish him only the best in his future endeavors.

Met the coach many times. Very nice personable guy, but he didn't get it done. He really should have been fired after the Fordham disaster last year. I have had conversations with several former assistants. Their take was that he was Impossible to work for. Expected 150 hours a week out of everyone. Many terrific assistants came and left, and could not take working for him, period! You are only as good as your assistants, and he was left with journeymen who had no other options. Too bad, as I always found him to be a nice guy, but it was time. I wish him well.

I found exactly the same from TG - no matter how rough the previous game or season had been. He displayed class and I believe will do the same now at this painful time for him.

My guess? NP (and Fr B) was getting heavy heat from some well-heeled alums and they pulled the plug....I think after the "apology letter" TG was on a very short leash. I highly doubt NP made this decision independent of alumni input.
