Everything is awesome! Future is bright! (Did I do that right?) Don’t know what’s more depressing: the state of the program or how few people care. If this season continues on the current trajectory, change will be needed. You"re just loving it, admit it. Not at all. I’m dying to at least have a watchable Holy Cross basketball product. This crap is incredibly hard to watch, and makes it depressing to think about the future if we stick with the current plan.

I left the Mullins Center last night thinking, "We have to get up more shots to score more points. We must have taken a lot more shots at Sacred Heart and against Harvard.." I just checked some of this seasons box scores, and to my surprise, we took 50 shots last night, 52 vs SH, and 56 vs Harvard...So much for my eyeball on the scoring problem! The biggest problem is putting the ball in the hoop! Against SH we were 9 for 23 shooting 3's, and against Harvard we were 6 for 16 on 3's...Last night we were 18 for 50 but only 5 for 21 on 3's! We really got killed at the free throw line, UMass shot an amazing 20 for 22!!! we were at 9 for 11! So what has to happen to score more points? Hit open shots, whenever they turn up in the play clock! Seems to me that we are very careful with the ball, run a lot of time off the clock with each possession, but don't look to take early shots.. it seems that too many times last night and in the last few games, we don't look to score the ball early in the play clock. Against the press last night, I don't remember but one time we scored attacking the rim vs there press, and that was in the last few minutes.. One thing I did notice was players looking to the bench after a turnover, missed shot etc....Seems Coach had a very quick hook last night..

How about playing aggressively and getting to the free throw line? Our finesse style has us ranked 333 in the country in free throw rate. How about running an offense that gets the ball inside to guys in scoring position? Floyd is shooting 73% on FGs, but only getting 6.5 shots per game.

I agree with you Bringbackcaro...I think our offense was much more aggressive early on in the season....Maybe if we make a few shots on a more consistent basis, good things will happen! We are a very young team, takes time to gain confidence scoring the ball!

Good point BBC Carmody mentioned in T&G article the need to get Floyd more shots. Dado not sure whether to be honored or disappointed to be lumped in with HC70 and BBC. I have been critical of Carmody's recruiting which make most on this board unhappy. It seems to me that most posters think a successful recruit is anyone who puts on a purple uniform, and there should be no criticism or review of a players performance till his 4 years are completed. It's okay to say Green looks great but not okay to point out hole the sophomore class leaves in this years team and how it hurt last years team. I pointed out how we lost many of our top targets to league rivals, if we expect to compete with these teams we are going to have to win some of these recruiting battles. I've followed this team since the days of Jack Foley and want them to do well but I will continue to call them the way I see them and be critical if I think it's warranted.

Guys get benched immediately after any transgression. On a team whose players seem to be constantly vying for time, could this be causing tentative play?

Putting me with possum is outrageous unless possum is hc70, gateraider or 'sota in disguise. (Love to see those 3 back.) Possum knows a little about basketball. Rather lump me a notch below bbc and hc70. I'd be honored to be lumped with those guys, who, in different ways, know what's going on at HC sports. I tend to agree with sov, whose posts I only see occasionally. He thinks Carmody is not winning enough in year 3. Let's say we win 10 this year (my prediction) and 12 next year with no help from a null set frosh class. How much rope does Carmody have? I want us to win, but it does not look like it's going to happen this year. I believe KC and AB are not injured, just playing poorly. Carmody can coach but he's not a good salesman (his words) which is necessary for recruiting. ADNP? Feggedabout it!

RW also used to have a quick hook, but he’d use that hook to give immediate instruction in the seat right next to him on the bench and also conduct extensive self-study film work to correct errors. I get the sense (from watching the HC product and from reading about his time at Northwestern) that film study and scouting is very limited with Carmody.

Gotta be a certain player type to handle that without icing up, I suppose.

I'm going to go way out on a limb and say that the coaching staff, with all of their collective experience coaching college basketball over the last 35 plus years, has a better handle on how to coach their team than any of us.

i've been away from the board for a variety of reasons, but i will now take my lumps from bbc, hc70/ncaam/possum/whatever other names he's using at the moment and anyone else who has doubled-down on carmody and nate pine's failure. it has been a disappointing start to the season and there will be no argument from me in that regard. i haven't watched a game since fairleigh dickinson (which was an awful performance), but i am still unquestionably "long" on carmody and the program. i expected a poor ooc, although i had hoped we would have beaten fairleigh dickinson and won at least one game in ireland. but really, we're not that far off from what most expected in the ooc as far as wins and losses. i don't think carmody forgot how to coach. he was, judging by wins and losses and long tenure in the big 10, arguably the most successful incoming coach to hc. that includes ralph willard, who was still my favorite college basketball coach at hc (past or present) who struggled at pitt and did not survive nearly as long. i loved willard because i'm a defense guy personally, although i've been around the game long enough to know there is more than one way to skin a cat. and as much as it pains me to say it, ralph willard could never get us over the hump of winning an ncaa tournament game as several pl teams have now done. the teams were simply too offensively challenged and could never get the big bucket we needed in any of those games. to quote my bud ryan serravale, these losses felt like getting our hearts ripped out/"oot" (to quote accent) and i didn't get the sense that was going to change. and of course, he left us before we could find out. i don't hold it against him, i'm forever grateful for his rejuvenation of the program and the great memories of our success during his leadership. in any event, those of us who believe in carmody's leadership and recognize that a program that was without an identity for two consecutive coaching staffs and has experienced a complete roster refresh knew that this year would be a struggle, especially early on. nothing that i've seen has changed, although i do have some concerns. what's most concerning to me are the following: - the collapse in the second half of games. chalk it up to a young team to a degree, but carmody needs to come up with some kind of plan (different rotations? different defensive schemes? ) to prevent this from becoming a chronic problem. this one is on carmody, in my opinion. - karl charles' health. we simply need more consistent play from kc to compete. if he is injured, that's a good sign. if this is his game, that's very concerning. i have a sense he is not at 100%. we will be a better team with karl at full health. - the interior defense and defensive rebounding has been horrible. carmody does not value offensive rebounding, so his rebounding rankings even on good teams against great competition in the big 10 were never very good. but we need to rebound better defensively and defend the interior better. that said, i love what i've seen out of caleb green (consistently) and the other freshmen (not as consistently). we've played very well at times, which gives a glimpse of how this team might look when we're more experienced and physically developed. the naysayers will view every game as the way it will always be. the question is, will they have the stones to admit they were wrong if carmody turns it around and the team is stronger by the end of this season and wins the pl next year as many of us hope? we'll see. while i will always call out hypocrisy (read: the ridiculous double-standard from hc70 [and his aliases] with respect to his litany of excuses from milan brown and obsession with him to this day), i won't crucify those who just don't think carmody will get it done the way i and others were crucified by the "hater hunters" for criticizing milan brown's leadership... which was obviously justified criticism as the only person whose opinion matters took action and brought in a guy that had been successful. bbc and his previous iterations were at least consistent in that he didn't like milan brown or carmody. mea culpa isn't big around crossports, but if there is no improvement of any sort by the end of this year and we're still struggling next year when i feel we should be the league favorites, i'll be the first to admit i was wrong about carmody. many fine points, Dado one I question is that we should be the favorite next season. I disagree, unless we finish very strong and our lineup proves it can play with anyone, , maybe except Bucknell, this season
