Congratulations to Josh on his outstanding performance! It is not often that one records personal bests in five events to break the HC school record by 300 points. I just did not want his achievement to get lost on Crossports.
This had to be a typo..."Alexander Escada recorded a new personal best in the shot put (1.78m) and finished fifth overall." That distance would not even win an elementary school meet. Does HC ever post corrections to such bloopers?

This was an excellent result. Indoor multi events are not frequently contested, but these are still great performances. We had four guys in this event and they all performed pretty well in at least one event. There are not a lot of opportunities for high school kids to compete in multi events, but they are a group who deserve interest given all they can bring to a team which is frequently light on jumping and hurdling types. Here are the complete results www.tfrrs.org/results/52181_3224948.html#3225846For any math/stats geeks interested, here is a piece from 538 about multi event scoring showing where an athlete ought to focus his or her training. fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-scoring-for-the-decathlon-and-heptathlon-favors-running-over-throwing/

Congratulations to Josh on his outstanding performance! It is not often that one records personal bests in all five events to break the HC school record by 300 points. Congrats to him. Also note that a heptathlon is seven events, not five. The five-event pentathlon is normally contested as the women's indoor multi event. He had a good score that would have earned him 5th place in the PL heptathlon last year. I see he hasn't competed in the PL meet since freshman year. I assume some injury issues. That makes his mark even more impressive.

Nice touch, bison. Young man breaks records for the College and you immediately pi$$ on the accomplishment by saying he’d finish 5th in PL competition and further water down the achievement that he hasn’t competed against that competition since freshman year.
Can always count on you to take the luster off any HC shine.

Can always count on you to take the luster off any HC shine. You are COMPLETELY wrong. I meant that as a compliment. I thought that was clear. The PL has some very good multi-event athletes and for an athlete in his first meet of the year - maybe first meet in a few years - to put up a score that would have been 5th in the PL meet is very good. Sorry you didn't understand.

Congrats to Josh!; His bio on the goholycross.com site lists his major as biology/pre-med and aspires to be an orthopedic surgeon. Way to go!

I should not have said "all" - but he did set five personal bests and several of those were meet records. Your PL comparison provided a nice perspective. Of course, this was not the PL Championship (or the NCAA Championships for that matter), but he still had a fine performance.

“He had a good score that would have earned him 5th place in the PL heptathlon last year.”
bison, I took this comment as a gratuitous diminuation of the accomplishment since he was not competing in the PL and also took that you were implying a “best” performance by an HC athlete would be no better than a 5th place performance.
You did put a number of complimentary comments so only you know what your motivations were. I will take your word for it that you were praising the performance.
P.S. I also are among those who appreciate the different perspectives brought to the board by non-HC members and that definitely includes you.

Best thing about these table-scored multi-events is that even the novice track observer can see strengths and weaknesses.
Josh seems the springy-fast sort. Impressive. He can learn the pole vault - provided we have a knowledgeable field coach - and make up a couple of hundred points there. (I should mention that there are not too many knowledgeable pole vault coaches as it is a somewhat rare high school event - in my locale in any case)
Assumption kid's 6'11" high jump was the standout performance of the entire heptathlon (easy to spot given the table scoring).
