Massey has the game as a virtual toss-up - making Colgate a 1 point favorite at the Hart.
Colgate is currently 5-6 with losses to UConn, Albany, Boston College, Marist, Syracuse and Binghamton. Their wins were over Cornell, UMBC, Columbia, NJIT, and Pittsburgh-Bradford (a weak D2 team with a record of 2-8).

Massey has the game as a virtual toss-up - making Colgate a 1 point favorite at the Hart. Colgate is currently 5-6 with losses to UConn, Albany, Boston College, Marist, Syracuse and Binghamton. Their wins were over Cornell, UMBC, Cilumbia, NJIT, and Pittsburgh-Bradford (a weak D2 team with a record of 2-8). I shot the BC game for Colgate. I thought Colgate should have won the game as they were up 16 or 17 with about 15 mins left. BC started pressing them and the Colgate offense went up in the air. I would have Colgate as a 10-12 point favorite. Just too much depth.

Here are some stats for Colgate
Effective FG %= #53 in D-1
3 PT Pctg= 39.6%= #38 3 PT FGA/FGA= #11 so the team takes a lot of 3 pointers and has been very good at converting
2 PT Pctg=50.7%= #144 FT PCTG= 71.5%= #150
FTA/FGA= #312 FT PCTG= 71.5% so they don't get to the line a lot but are decent when they do
TO = #86
OREB= #327 let's see how they do versus us.....

I wouldn't care if every player on our basketball team was a freshman, we should never be underdogs to Colgate in basketball. Football, OK. Basketball, never.
Oh, the humanity.

I don't care. It's friggin' Colgate. Colgate!!!! This is not football or hockey. It's basketball! Crowds of 250 people. More cows than citizens in Hamilton. Their glorious past means Foyle. That's it. Foyle. Not Cousy, Heinsohn, Pallazi, Perry, . . . . NCAA, NIT.

Two areas of the HC game I hope can improve quickly..
Passing the ball, vs Siena it was obvious to me how weak the passing skills of this team are..Late, and floaters will not do it at this level.. Free throws, making them and getting to the line..The lack of physical maturity really shows...Right now we get pushed around....

True enough, hoops. So, you are OK with Colgate being "better" than HC in basketball? [rhetorical question, I know you aren't].
Even w/o the LAC, do we have better basketball facilities? Do we have a better coach? Do we not have a long and extensive history of success in basketball vis-a-vis Colgate? I am not talking Bucknell or Lehigh. I am talking about Colgate!! Sorry, no excuses.

Would have had three, but senior Tom Rivard has missed the entire season due to injury. No idea if he will attempt to get an OK to return for a 6th year.

. Their glorious past means Foyle. That's it. Foyle. They certainly don't have the quality of past players that HC has. But it's more than Foyle. Pat Campolieta is one of only a couple players to make All-PL four times. Also many HC fans might not want to be reminded of PL POY Tucker Neale. And in older years, Colgate did produce three NBA players (other than Foyle), including Carl Braun, a frequent NBA all-star; Ernie Vandeweghe, who was an All-American at Colgate; and Bob Duffy, the 10th pick in the NBA draft. Certainly not Cousy or Heinsohn however.

And they've won how many national championships?
Look, slice and dice it any which way, Colgate should never be better than Holy Cross in basketball. Not saying it can't happen. It shouldn't happen. That's sort of like having the USA not win the Olympics. Yep, it happened. Shouldn't.

Some of the seniors from the classes of 81 and 82 teams recently gathered in the northeast. Actually they are in touch all the time and have an extraordinary closeness which is not unusual for most of the past HC teams. IMO they are among the top five recruiting classes since 1972 and demonstrate the richness of relationships that exist in the the program.
Despite the poor play over the last seven years, and being relegated to the bottom of the PL, we still have tradition and a program. I know some will argue the PL tournament/ NCAA win have us farther along, but that was more of a magical moment in sports vs being at the top of the league. Don’t get me wrong you take those moments as a player, coach, parent, student, alum and fan and enjoy the memories.
While Father Brooks is revered, perhaps well deserved, I remember the numerous conversations over many years EBW and I had with him regarding the Big East following his Sunday decision not to attend the press conference and join the BEC. I can only imagine the number of other heated and supportive conversations that were had on this topic. IMO his decision more than anything else changed Holy Cross Athletics. We all have our own thoughts on whether that was a good or bad call and no reason to relitigate in 2017.
Since that time we have had numerous moments to feel good about the program, but today I believe we are at a watershed moment for a few of the teams. How we meet these current recruiting and performance challenges will dictate the future of many pieces of the athletic department. We can begin a return to some of the days of old for basketball with this freshmen class if we give them time and the coaches perform.
If the staff is willing I think it would be interesting, and perhaps quite positive, if they allowed the 81 and 82 seniors to come back and mentor this group of freshmen to help them navigate the HC basketball experience. The group of freshmen appears to resemble the skills/style/importance to the team that a few members of those earlier classes contributed to the program. On top of that, like Togo and most on this board, they all bleed purple.
Just a crazy outside the box thought to help accelerate the growth and development of the freshmen and keep the leaders of HC basketball involved....

Notes (prior to their last game vs D2 Pitt-Bradford):
Will Rayman (last year's ROY in the PL) is the best 3 point shooter in the PL (28 of 53 for 52.8%). Colgate gets 11 3 point shots per game - 40% completion as a team (14th in the nation) Colgate is undefeated at home this year (5-0) in their ooc games. Colgate is scoring 76 ppg and giving up 73 ppg. They give up 12 turnovers/game (to 13 pg for opp.). Colgate has 5 steals/game (to 6 for opp.). Colgate has 33 rebounds/game (to 36 for opp.).

A much more even 13-8 dating back to the beginning of the 2007-2008 season. Doesn't feel like it but we're actually riding a four-game winning streak against the Red Raiders. More than a third of our ALL TIME losses to Colgate on the hardwood have come during my "blip-on-the-radar" miniscule decade of being a Crusader.
I see Colgate as a top-5 PL team this year, possibly even better. They played UConn within single digits for 30 minutes in their season opener, blew a 14-point halftime lead to BC and overcame a 20+ point deficit to Marist only to have their game winning half-court shot waved off.

.6 seconds left, Marist ball OOB. Inexplicably, Marist guy throws it to half court, intercepted by Colgate, who then makes the shot, ruled after the buzzer. MC wins by 2

I think a tipped ball has to be below the rim, because a tipped ball is considered a rebound not a shot...I don't think it has to be completely thru the net....
