We need a center, nothing else, and quickly. Preferably one that can shoot the ball from further than 3 feet.

I thought this group need some height and muscle in the lane before another talented guard...no?

With no announced openings, how strenuous is 2018 recruiting at this point?

If we do wind up with a spot, I think a first year transfer big man would be our first choice. Tough to get a decent big ever never mind at this point so a transfer is likely our best chance of getting someone who might be able to succeed JF.

To put things in a little perspective, this is right about the time Coach Carmody was hired. Hahn had his release papers in before Coach Carmody arrived. Proctor's release was also granted in March. They turned into Charles and Zignorski. Unless a scholarship opens up in the next week and a half, we will be behind that search timeline I don't recall how Charles made it unsigned into March. Zignorski jumped ship from Fordham after a coaching change there. Signed high school seniors jumping ship after a coaching change might also be a potential source. Obviously this whole thread is hypothetical because right now there are no scholarships available, but IF scholarship(s) open up, it would be better for HC if they open up sooner rather than later. I'm not sure HC could get anyone in the fall if a scholarship opened up in May or June

KC's knee injury had scared off most schools - believe FDU and Holy Cross were his choices by the time he made his decision. Not sure that Zignorski "jumped ship." He may have been nudged to re-consider his commitment by Neubauer.

When did the great Torey Thomas commit to Coach Willard? I have a recollection that it was in the Summer before freshman year, i.e. much later than March 21. I could be way off base on this and will thank anyone who can confirm my belief or set the record straight. I know we've talked about it on this board..

According to Google
He committed to Holy Cross on 7/8/2003.

Recruiting has changed quite a bit in 15 years. Very, very unlikely any quality player would be available in July these days

Find a transfer center from a power conference who is stuck behind someone and looking to play. They’re out there if we know how and where to look.

Twice in the last 20 years with mixed results. Sankes and Fingleton

How about a couple JF-type transfers which is more likely than a good 7 footer

Excuses excuses. Find a way to get it done. Teams that play into March just have a way of getting things handled. Or we can just let JF graduate and see how well we do with either no center or a freshman center.

Isn't Matt Faw a center (if we have to use the position labels)?

Isn't Matt Faw a center (if we have to use the position labels)? I expect Matt, who certainly has a lot of talent on offensive end of the court, to make a big move forward next season--weight training, increased physical maturity, maybe some work with Coach Scott?

Agree - we all know he needs to work on his defense, but he sure looks like a kid that has a real idea of how to play at the offensive end. Steaks and Weights! Steaks and Weights!
