Don’t know his heritage. Excellent in the gym by yourself shooter. Not fast or athletic. No d1 scholarship offers. That being said if he signs I hope he develops like gangbusters.

Maybe he’ll deliver for the Crusaders like Charley “Paw Paw” Maxwell did for the Tigers of the late ‘50s—nicknamed the Sabbath Swatter in 1959 for hitting many of his HRs on Sundays—12 out of 31.

And another couple. Can handle a little, gets up and down well, and not shy about putting it up.

One of the videos has a “to improve” ending. So rare.

One of the videos has a “to improve” ending. So rare. Also shows more than just his shooting. Looks pretty agile defensively, jumping out from the paint to close on shooters, which is what Carmody seems to value in his bigs.

Based on many sources, it does not appear he had any offers. That's why this looks like a preferred walk-on situation.

Neither did Grandison last year

I assume a preferred walk-on can become a scholarship player when a scholarship actually becomes available - and until the status of one or more current scholarship players officially changes, that can't happen. Maybe, in the meantime, it's in all parties' interests to be a little circumspect about what's really going on here.

The Grandville Calvin Christian program is a strong one. One of the posts indicated that GCC and Verbeek were in the state championship game in 2016 (when Verbeek was a sophomore) and, as far back as 1992 when my son was a HS sr., GCC was a Final Four team. A strong winning tradition. Hope we can land him—pwo or scholarship—and that he is as productive as our last player of Dutch heritage— AVB.
Our track record with Michigan HS players over the last 50 yrs. has been excellent. Each of them (Grayson, Moulton, Tropf, Mashburn, Walker and Pegues) has started for at least 2 yrs.

Neither did Grandison last year True. But there are a number of differences: - Grandison got an offer in early March, reported as a scholarship offer by several sources including Grandison. - He did not accept the offer at the same moment the offer was first reported. - His offer and acceptance both came more than a month before the late signing date. Ver Beek's came after the start of the signing period. At that point, he had no reported offers. There's nohing wrong with being a PWO. And at 6-10, he may turn out to be a useful player.

Not sure he's come to the right state, but definitely the right school! If this is an official visit, as tweeted, Holy Cross is paying for it.

hchoops GCC is a Class C school (enrollment between 225 and 450) playing in the O-K (O for Ottawa and K for Kent counties) Silver Conference in the greater Grand Rapids area. The conference is comprised of 7 schools—mostly Class B schools. Despite being one of the smallest schools in the conference, GCC finished second in the conference this yr. at 8-4 with an overall record of 14-7 and two yrs. ago when BV was a sophomore went to the Class C state championship game. Overall competition level in a Class B/C league in the GR area is certainly not as strong as metro Detroit or Flint. Probably the same level as at Petoskey where Chris Hass of Bucknell played. If BV provides his college choice with the same level of play as Chris Hass, I’m sure the school would be happy. I have reached out to a few friends who are with the R.E.A.C.H. Legends AAU program to see what they can tell me about the GR Storm and BV

After my previous posts, looked at the Detroit Free Press sports page this morning and saw the various All State teams. BV was listed as second team Class C all state. If posters go to www.freep.com, they can probably key into the article.
