Noticed in box score that Niego was only player who didn't play, anyone know if he's hurt or sick?

Maybe we could start a thread called 'Positive Takeaways" following our losses? Like speculating that a player is a frosh or junior and will therefore be better next year. Or noting it is early (or mid) season and we'll therefore get better as the season progresses. Or unearthing stats that show 'improvement' in one relatively obscure category or another. Or the Luth (or the coach) as a future (if not present) recruit magnet. Or pointing out (when applicable) various doubling or tripling of Hart center crowd size from the previous game. At least that would be some discussion of the present......as opposed to decisions from 40 years ago.

We have become The College of the Holy Cross where athletic success is measured by participation and graduation rates. A good point. Back when my son was being recruited for swimming, that was all the chach spoke about - graduation rate and post-graduation success. Never a word about the sport itself. I hope we move away from that SOON.

What do you hope to accomplish with the sarcasm? "The future is bright" ? Are you thinking that maybe if you post it, say, 200 times you'll finally open our eyes?

On a positive note, I do like the fact Grandison seems to be getting more comfortable knocking down free throws. Hopefully it is contagious.

Perhaps even more importantly, JG has finally started drawing some fouls and getting to the line First 14 games---played 281 minutes and took 5 free throws= 0.7 FTA/40 minutes Last 5 games---played 143 minutes and took 14 free throws= 4.1 FTA/40 minutes 4.1 is not yet at world class status (e.g. Zach Thomas= 11.6 FTA/40) but it's a great improvement

I don't know, I thought that was just the new phrase when you wanted to say something that completely contradicted what is actually taking place to try and make it all feel better. Therefore, I saw it fitting to go along with the updated scoreboard that has Carmody one PL loss away from dropping below Sean Kearney's winning percentage.

I listen to the WEEI feed before, during and after HC games. Lutsk does a good job. During yesterday's game he said at halftime he would replay the earlier pre-game interview of CBC. It was a long interview so the discussion of recruiting was cut off for lack of time. So I have to try to recreate what I heard at game start. What follows is what "I" heard CBC say.
Lutsk introduced the issue of no seniors, hence no recruits in 2018. CBC said something like, "Well you know, there are so many transfers these days and there are always injuries. We are still looking at 2018 recruits." Reading between the lines, I BELIEVE HC is trying to get MP's athletic scholarship back. He would give us one 2018 scholarship. Since my source, HCBC, brought up "transfers" I SUSPECT he is preparing for same. That's my GUESS. Losing, lack of playing time and losing lead to disgruntlement and a desire to transfer. We should have disgruntlement in spades. I THINK we will lose a player or two to transfer, thus opening a scholarship or three.
I highly RECOMMEND listening to WEEI in advance of game start. Much more interesting that Compass Tavern drivel. Try it out Monday night.

HC70, I'm picking up what you're putting down with the 2018 scholarship speculation. I think Carmody will try and find a way to use Perkins' scholarship for a transfer.

So this potential transfer would begin play for HC in 2019-2020 season, right?

Since being inserted in starting lineup after UMass game MZ has shot 33% overall and 25% on threes with basically wide open looks. Don't think he's exactly seized the opportunity he's been given. I think he and CLS are similar players and would like to see CLS get a chance so we can finally see if he can play or not.

Pretty late to start recruiting a good senior I am only telling you what CBC said. They have been looking at 2018 kids. You may be correct, it is too late, but those are the types of kids CBC and staff recruit leftovers/injured kids, ie CLS and KC. The WooAcad kid still on our 2018 list per VC. Will be interesting. My guess he will have 2/3 schollies to work with.

If winning matters (and it certainly does), I believe that PL titles and NCAA appearances matter as well. No?

rgs technically you are correct we got an NCAA win but I would take any of Willards losses over true NCAA caliber teams than a win that was proven irrelevant when we then lost by 40 to a legit team. What's happened to the program since that time proves how truly unbelievable that run was.

Thanks for that "technical" concession. Well, a win is a win. Even when you then lose to the number one seeded team. And, a loss is a loss. Could our being too comfortable with "quality losses" have helped HC's decline? The league champion of the Southern Conference is a "legit" team. My preference os for NCAA wins...and I don't care who the opponent might be. The who fixate on opponents more than on Holy Cross itself may, I am sure, disagree.

We played Southern, who is from the SWAC, which is the worst conference every season.
There's no way of sugarcoating it. Carmody has not lived up to expectations when he was hired. That's indisputable.

Ralph left us in the lurch when he departed for U of L. We then followed with one horrendous and one weak coach. The program was hurt a great deal by those three things. The jury (if I am a member) is out on this third new coach who is trying to dig the program out of the ditch.

I would bet he will have two or three openings. The players we recruited over the past few years are still out there. They are 2* or 2- * players with interesting upside and grades
One might very well be MP, one more might come from our sophomore class that want to play all the time and switch to a D3 school, and one of the freshmen that doesn’t want to lose and believes he can play at a higher level.
None of this is desirable or good, but certainly possible if not likely.
