This our 4. A team's marquee boat is always the 8. If your talent is wanting, you put your best four rowers in a 4.

I thought it might be interesting to check the bios of our four rowers. Two had rowed in high school while two had competed in other sports. I'd guess if we checked, say, Princeton we'd find more rowers who had been ith the sport for years. Just guessing.
I knew a bunch of HC crew guys during my years at HC--unbelieveably rigorous training regimen that they had.

My daughter rowed for Northfield Mount Hermon, Wisconsin-Madison and the US National Team. Rowers are probably the best conditioned athletes, have the lowest body fat--which is measured periodically. Get out of bed when it's still dark, run, then row on a freezing cold lake. Work out on erg machines, constantly "seat race" against your teammates. It's brutal.

They also wanted keg party stamps on the palm of their hands because the coach could see it on the back. Congrats to our team on a great performance.

As I've said previously, unlike most other rowing schools, we are relatively close to championship water (Lake Q), we're close to major rowing schools (Harvard, BU, MIT, Northeastern, Dartmouth) and I have heard that there is a benefactor who is ready to fund a boat house. The elite high school rowers are at the prep schools. There is no reason why we can't get our share. Are we setting our sights high enough?

Cheers.

Financial support for what, athletic scholarships, boat house, shells, shell trailer, truck? We train in Tampa.

As a rowing alum I am happy these guys got a chance to compete against the best programs in the country. What I am less excited about is that the program failed to qualify for the 8 man events. The selection committee evaluated our poor regular season and championship results and declined our bid to bring eights. We brought our four best guys from our 1st boat and raced against other teams 3rd and 4th boat rowers since Cal, Harvard, Princeton ect all prioritize the 8 man events. In light of that backstory the “Fourth in the Nation” headline is a bit misleading. Unfortunately the original tweet was seen by other programs and now is being discussed in college rowing circles. It undermines our credibility among our peer schools and gives the impression that Holy Cross is satisfied with a very mediocre season. I would liken it to school with a proud basketball history failing to make the NCAA Tourney and then doing backflips about making the “Sweet 16” of the NIT. rowingillustrated.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7677&start=120

Wow. Some very frank talk in that link. It confirms what I said above about the 4 vs. the 8. I don't criticize HC for promoting the IRA results. I'm sure Barr is trying his best. The problems are above his head in the pecking order.
