I wouldn't make Holy Cross the favorite in any baseball game against a Sun Belt university. And that's not a knock on Holy Cross

No weather in the south according to Mercer site the change was made because of our travel delays Seems we did not get out until sometime today. 9pm tmro does seem like a strange start time

Mercer is 6-2 and ranked at #90. Massey makes them a favorite with a predicted score of 6-4 (starting pitchers are not included in that prediction). Mercer has wins over #292 Bethune Cookman (2), #477 Florida A+M (1), #551 UNC Ashville (3). Their two losses were to Bethune Cookman and Florida A+M. Holy Cross will be the highest rated team that Mercer has played so far this year.

Looking at the box score for last night's 12-4 loss it looks like it was a pretty tough outing for McGowan (5 runs in 4 innings) but (on the bright side) Russo continues his great hitting against quality opponents. We're now 1-6 going into today's doubleheader v Mercer.

These early season games def important for our pitchers - last night's box score shows some struggles with timing and control - 2 balks and '7' batters hit by our pitchers

Compare to the local MLB team (I do know there's a difference in control between major league pitchers and college ones): last year the Red Sox pitchers hit 49 batters and Red Sox batters were hit by pitch 53 times.

Methinks this is a rebuild year. Hope Coach proves me wrong!

agree that this year will be a challenge esp with the pitching staff which is breaking in an entire new starting rotation (names to be determined !) but Mercer also had their issues with control. We scored our 2nd run in the 5th via 3 wp's. Meyer singled, then went to 2nd, 3rd and home on the 3 wp's.
Regarding the start time last night, I'm beginning to think it was all about our travel. Guessing we didn't arrive there until late Sunday afternoon. Could be an interesting story to hear

It’s not just the pitching, count up the strikeouts we’ve had so far this season. Almost as staggering as the hit batsmen

22-4 after 6 innings - we have plunked another 4 mercer batters in this game - workouts at the indoor Luth facility does not seem to have given the pitchers any confidence now that we're outdoors
