Edward F. Callahan (93), English professor and former chair of the English department passed away on Thursday, April 19th. Though I did not have him for English, he was very well known during his tenure at HC. I'm sure many of you may have known him or taken one or more of his classes. His obituary can be found in today's edition of the Worcester Telegram: www.legacy.com/obituaries/telegram/obituary.aspx?n=edward-callahan&pid=188799351&fhid=12530From the obituary.... his appreciation of "a very dry gin martini with a dozen oysters"!

Sad news. One of the giants during my days at HC, and for many years thereafter.
RIP.

Also, one of the many students who never had a course with him but his reputation was legendary. R.I.P.

May his soul Rest In Peace and his loved ones (and former students) find comfort in the chance they got to know him and his work.

Belatedly catching up with this. I was privileged to take his Honors course on Ulysses in the mid-sixties. One of the two best courses I had at HC...the other being Father Desautels' two year survey of French literature.
