I wish him all the best. It can be a long road to the bigs. Not only a long road but very long odds when you're drafted outside of the early rounds. A 20th rounder has about a 12% chance to ever play in an MLB game and about a 2% chance to become a decent MLB player. But those are much better odds than the pitchers from Bucknell and Lafayette who were taken on the 35th round yesterday. The probability of a player taken in that round ever reaching the majors, even for one game, is about 5.5% with a 0,4% probability of becoming a solid player. There have been a few good 20th rounders over the years, with the best since 1995 being Cliff Lee and Jose Bautista. Next would be JD Martinez and Wade Miley.

You can add Charlie Blackmon to that list, as well.
Mike Ahmed was drafted in the 20th round and is having a very good season for the Class A team in the Dodgers organization.

Look no further than 62nd round favor pick & Hall of Famer Mike Piazza as example of late-round success.

I have a friend who was a fifth round pick. He spent 7 years in the minors during the 1990's including three in AAA. His career professional average was .294 including .289 in AAA. He spent two seasons on the 40 man roster and went to spring training with the major league club three times. He accidentally used a now Hall of Famer's bat in BP and broke it. He came so close but never even had the proverbial cup of coffee. He is a middle school gym teacher today and a great guy with fun stories. Good for Nick. I hope he makes it.

NIck went 1-3 in his first game with Lowell and 0-3 (reached on an error and scored) in his second.

Nick should just use the men's basketball team PL run as inspiration for the journey ahead of him.
Rookie League......beating Loyola A League...............beating Bucknell AA League............beating Army AAA League..........beating Lehigh Majors!...................beating Southern!
Good luck Nick!

Checked to see how Nick was doing with Lowell. His line is .268/.364/.321/.685. Average is 5th on team and OBP is third. Not showing much power. He has appeared in 18 games, has 55 AB's, and 65 PA's.
He is getting a chance and seems to be making something of it.

Nick was moved to the Sox full season A team, the Greenville Drive. See his stats here. www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?player_id=623517#/career/R/hitting/2016/ALL(The two games at AA Portland were before he was sent to Greenville. I suspect that there was a sudden need for an infielder for a couple of nights.) He seems to be hanging in there and is getting a chance to show what he can do.
