I love that we are #2 on this site--but there sure are some real differences here versus other rankers. It's great to see bc where it belongs in 17th place.....

Even BC haters have to question this ranking with PC just behind us?

Holy Cross is ranked #39 overall on the 'publisher' consensus, same as Providence.
Holy Cross is ranked #108 on the student consensus, same as Auburn, Davidson, Union, Richmond, and Wake Forest.
N = 990 ranked schools.
There are 30 schools with a student consensus value of 78 or some fraction, including HC.
There are six schools, including HC, with a publisher consensus value of 75 or some fraction.
One likely problem with the publisher index is that the rankings are not weighted; i.e., a #20 ranking on a list of national universities is given the same weight as a #20 on a list of regional universities in the South. Which is why Providence comes out so high; its an orange in a box of apples.
The compression of scores in the student consensus suggests that the rankings are the averaged sum of very few sources.

I think a couple obscure schools were listed twice.
I counted 17 schools I've never heard of.

Thank you for the consensus of publishers and student ranking. OMG Villanova behind HC and others at #9. BC #17? In my mind, this poll with its wide disparities shows the futility of using numerical data as a quantifiable way to indicate the quality of a college/ university. It is a fool's errand to get caught up totally in numbers. Subjectivity, by the various stakeholders I suspect plays a greater role in these wildly divergent"rankings". Admission numbers while of interest to academics do not tell the whole story and require a deeper dive into the numbers than is readily available for a fuller evaluation. The rankings are primarily a money making endeavor for various publications. I remember reading that "US News & World..." was going under until it started publishing its annual college ranking poll. To the point: I am in agreement that HC needs to improve and I honestly think that the school is poised to vault ahead with the robust support of its alumni among others. But , nonetheless, I am very proud and happy that HC is ranked so highly by a consensus of the polls. Love HC
Agree on all points.
At this stage, I think we should not over-analyze, but rather just wear the headline proudly.

We know it is not alumni giving, because we lead in that number year over year against supposed peer schools. The key is leadership....finding people who act, not those who are poised to act. Cheers.
