Not sure but think the Varsity Club, who gave the trophy, may be independent or quasi-independent of the College. That, and they probably made a whole bunch of them years ago and have to run off their supply of trophies.

And note, she will be going to law school at Dickinson after graduation where football coach Bob Chesney graduated.

She's an amazing runner--consider the array of distances at which she holds school records

That, and they probably made a whole bunch of them years ago and have to run off their supply of trophies. More likely the quasi independent thing. I know the Worcester County Alumni still have a knight on horse for logo/letterhead. The logo is different than the old official school logo that sader70 recently had as an avatar, but was (I think) unique to the Worcester Club. To date no one has brought up a desire to change it to be in line with the new school policy of removing knight imagery. Until something changes (like someone in the Varsity Club taking it upon themselves to find a new casting for the trophy, or the school requesting a new casting and the club agreeing), I would expect that knight to stick around

Huh? The one thing has nothing to do with the other.
Very happy for her and well deserved. But understand that the accolades are not coming like a deluge on Crossports because, in case you haven't already figured it out, most posters are more followers of men's basketball and football, some baseball and hockey and then the interest plummets from there. There are some that are devoted to other sports but they are in the minority.
But, I will share with you (I don't think he'll mind) a portion of a Class newsletter from one of our Class Chairs, Tom Mulvihill, who talked about another young lady on the track team. Tom is a retired Superintendent of schools. Tom is not a Crossports poster but I think you will appreciate his thoughts.

Zoe can be counted as one of the GOAT for HC T&F - from the story on the athletic site today detailing her race tmro in Tampa "Matherne is the first Holy Cross student-athlete to ever take part in the Division I NCAA Championship in women’s outdoor track and field more than once, and only the third to compete overall." She runs at 8 pm tomorrow (Thursday) Here is the start list for her qualifying round www.ncaa.com/sites/default/files/external/track-field/results/d1/outdoor18/East/024-1_start.htm

Zoe Matherne is an amazing person. We can all learn from her; her strength of character and resilience. We should all take pride in her. She is an inspiration to all. I must admit that I find it very disheartening that a few posters are so hung up on the Crusader knight and so shortsighted that they failed to give this wonderful student her deserved accolades. It is a pity. Love Holy Cross Here's a prior thread when she was named Crusader of the Year and there were a fair amount of views. Viewers don't always post. crossports.freeforums.net/thread/2532/crusader-year

And the hits, keep coming. This was announced today
Matherne Earns McCloskey Postgraduate Scholarship Holy Cross Athletics Thu, May 24, 2018 CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Senior Zoe Matherne, a member of the Holy Cross women’s track and field and cross country teams, has been awarded a postgraduate scholarship from Bob McCloskey Insurance, a corporate sponsor of the Patriot League. Matherne and Loyola (Md.) senior men’s lacrosse player Brian Begley were this year’s two recipients of the scholarships.
Matherne and Begley, both members of the Class of 2018, represent the third class of Patriot League student-athletes eligible to apply for the McCloskey Scholarship. Loyola Maryland has had a student-athlete earn the scholarship in each year with Rosy Hayes (2016) and Bailey Mathis (2017). Navy’s Ryan Speir (2017) and Boston University’s Rachel Blauner (2016) have also received the scholarship.
The Bob McCloskey Insurance Postgraduate Scholarship program was established to award student-athletes who have displayed excellence in the classroom, in athletic competition, and in the community with a chance to pursue their future academic endeavors.
Matherne was selected to the Academic All-Patriot League team for track and field in both the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 seasons and has been named All-Patriot League multiple times in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. She made history in 2017 by becoming only the third Holy Cross student-athlete to take part in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championship, competing in the 800-meter race in Lexington, Ky. Later today, she will become the first Crusader to compete in the NCAA Championship more than once, when she runs in the 800-meters in Tampa, Fla. Matherne holds school records in the outdoor 400-meter run (57.22), the indoor 800-meter run (2:08.07), the outdoor 800-meter run (2:06.91), the indoor 1,000-meter run (2:45.95), the outdoor 1,500-meter run (4:25:78) and the indoor one-mile run (4:47.18).
Matherne, who owns a 3.61 cumulative grade point average with a major in history, will graduate from Holy Cross on Friday. She will be attending law school this fall at the Dickinson College of Law in Pennsylvania.

As much as it can sometimes be depressing to see the negativity that occasionally infects this board, it is so uplifting to see one of our Crusaders do well and speak so well of her Holy Cross experience.
Congratulations, Zoe, and best wishes in your future undertakings.
