Who's the fellow holding the #24?
My class has some young looking guys; I can actually recognize 3 of them.
(edit) I was just reading what happened to him. Bicycle accident. Terrible.,

Jim is one of the few HC players who averaged a double—15.2, 10.6 Especially impressive doing it while playing all 3 years with Gene Doyle,(and one season with Bob Kissane,) both of whom also averaged a double-double. perhaps the only classmates to do so. Teammates, but not classmates, Heinsohn- Palazzi and Siudut-Hochstein also did it.

That's awesome. Jim was an excellent player and a better, nicer guy.
As I recall, that was some recruiting class - Jim, Gene Doyle, Kevin Stacom and Bruce Grentz.

Great shooter and rebounder as well--I got to see him play for two years.
Note that this was the last class with no female grads--class of 74 had a few transfers as did my class of 1975.

Last class w/o female grads, yes, but the incomparable Class of '72 was the last w/o any female students on campus.

A little more history for the young'uns. Although the girls came in the fall of '72, the decision was made two years prior, with a two year transition period to prepare. Among the concerns that delayed things: 1.) that alumni wives and mommies wouldn't be able to donate to the school and 2.) that expenses (for things such as full length mirrors in Mulledy) would be substantial.

Go back further to "Co-ed Week" my junior year when ladies came to classes, lived in dorms, ate at Kimball for a week as an experiment to see what logistical and other issues might come into play if Holy Cross admitted women. I believe it was considered a great success or you might not have seen women at Holy Cross for another 10-15 years later.

Jim was one of the first names I remember as a young kid (with guys like Gene Doyle and Stan Grayson) as I went to bed at night in winter with my little hand transistor radio under my pillow.

That 70-71 team was very talented with Kissane, Grayson, Venne, Adams and the four talented sophomores and ended the season at 18-8 but unfortunately like almost all the Donohue teams finished on a down note losing three of the last four at home and once again missed out on a tournament bid.

I knew Jim Schnurr from his HS days at St. Francis Prep. His character was impeccable. With Mr. Maloney, I occasionally drove him to out of season games with his close friend and teammate, Mike Rivera. They were always very appreciative. I also had the pleasure of coaching his son, Jim Jr., at George Blaney’s camp. He was a wonderful person also.

There is a facebook page called Schnurr Steps. Doesn't have anything posted for the last 5 months, hope he's making progress. Certainly having him come up to Worcester is a good sign.

Yes, that was a very good team … Kissane, Grayson, Schnurr, Adams and Grentz as starters with Doyle, Stacom, Venne and Joe Phelan off the bench. Probably missing someone too from 71, 72 or 73 (74 was not eligible). Losing to BC at the end of the season really hurt their chances. The Eagles were more or less a .500 team too.

tim, that's Jim Millard holding the frame with Jim's jersey. It was quite a day for all of us and can say it was very emotional for obvious reasons. It was a total surprise for Jim (he thought he was just coming to campus for the reunion picnic) so he was very moved when all applauded as he entered the team lounge. Fr Borough's was there and read a blessing for Jim and the lounge itself that those players occupying it will have the fortitude than Jim has displayed in his fight. Quite a memorable day with perfect weather !
