For many years, basketball players didn't hit the weight room, period. Times have changed.

Drone video from yesterday of LAC: Nice view! But the pilot seems kind of shaky on the stick! ! Two points for those who haven’t seen the place: The video doesn’t do justice to the actual size of the building; and the cross on the side of the building is very visible from 290 coming from downtown.

Well, I suppose I could have shot it at ground level on a golf cart and gone around the whole perimeter.

For many years, basketball players didn't hit the weight room, period. Times have changed. been away from the board for a while, but man did this get me fired up. thanks for the post, hoops! ab is an absolute beast of a basketball player. 245lb front squat for reps with nice form among a 6'4 guard - much further down to squat to parallel than shorter athletes - who is only 18/19 years old is rare. we've been soft for too long since the days of big pat, szatko, curry et al... and this kid is going to physically damage our opponents in the years to come. trimster makes a great point about basketball players/coaches/handlers ignoring physical strength until fairly recently. i played for a legendary coach in baltimore - jerry savage (RIP), who coached jason kidd and others in a national all-star game thecapitalclassic.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/1992_Full-Program.pdf and several mcdonald's all americans in the 1970's - and he thought weight training was not only a waste of time, but that it was detrimental to a player's game because of the completely misguided notion that it would result in loss of flexibility and shooting touch. this was in the mid 1990's! those of us with a football background politely ignored the warnings and were obviously much better players as a result. as we see in today's game, nothing could be further from the truth. players have become so much better in that in addition to developing three point range at most positions, they are bigger, stronger, and more athletic at every position. the advances in physical performance training, nutrition, and recovery science (cryotherapy, sauna, etc.) has resulted in athletes we couldn't have imagined even 20 years ago (read: lebron james) and this will only increase as kids are getting started on these techniques even early and there is even more money on the table in professional sports and endorsements to make the investment in athletic performance worthwhile. while butler was physically ready from day one, this is why i think we've made good decisions on physically-underdeveloped players out of high school like faw, grandison, niego, and verbeek. these kids will get stronger. every strength coach in a d1 program these days has the multi-modal knowledge required to transform a physically weak kid into a physically strong man. we can already see it in a few of our guys and i am confident that this will result in better play.

Dadominate --Savage and Ray Mullis were terrific teachers and developers of young men and basketball players-- too bad Gibbons closed due to enrollment issues (I believe) -- the BCL was a great way to spend time watching talented players.

It would have to compete with Rice HS in Manhattan-Kemba Walker, Felipe Lopez, Dean Meminger, etc. The smallest I have seen.—now also closed

One of the teams I coached from NVA played Team Melo in the 2004-07 time frame-- they had Donte Green , Delaney, Mosley and a few others. I remember we beat them once over in the Charm City Tournament- lost to them at Nationals by about 20 and had an OT game with them at Georgetown. A couple of my kids played in the WCAC for Joe Wooten, one at St James in the MAC, and then the last one played for Georgetown Prep in the IAC-- all played against the teams in the league

It seemed narrow. There were about two rows of seats all the way around as I recall. Rocket Rod Foster, the best high school player I ever saw in person, who went on to play at UCLA and in the NBA before being badly injured in an off the court incident, played there.

Thanks, Dado though Felipe never lived up to the unfair NYC hype, he was a terrific HS player.
