Knowing that there are many current and prospective Crusader faithful who frequent these parts, I welcome sharing this message that recently went out to all those involved with our Friends of Crusader Football 90-Wide Mentoring Program.
*****************************************************:
Fellow Crusaders,
Hope you are all doing well, are staying cool, and will be able to enjoy the company of family and friends in celebrating our nation's birth.
I welcome sharing some recent communications that have crossed my desk over the past month. All of these messages exemplify the special nature of our HC Football Family and the collective commitment to excellence of the 90-Wide in helping our Crusaders win on and off the field:
From the Past:
Larry,
It's been way too long and I hope all is well. I made my way back up to the hill a couple of weeks ago for my 10 year (I can't believe how quick time is flying by!) and it brought back so many great memories. I think back to the experience and support provided by Professor Chu and the Entrepreneurial Studies program. I am forever grateful to Bill Maloney and the alums who came back for our Career Nights and how much I learned from them. I am also so appreciative of getting the opportunity to know you and your family.I just wanted to reach out to you just to say thank you for all of your support and involvement over the years. It is greatly appreciated. I'll never forget the time you gave me 5 years ago to listen to an idea that has now bloomed into a Tech startup opportunity. You and other mentors from the 90-Wide have always been available and willing to help and I just want to let you know that I sincerely appreciate that.
Thank You,
Obi Green '08
From the Present
Mike Tucker '14 is in the process of transitioning his career from collegiate athletics to the world of business. He has brought a level of color and vitality in the process of utilizing the benefits of the 90-Wide that is exemplary. His efforts are captured on the attached photo and recently wrote to me:
Larry,
I have been researching, calling and emailing nonstop asking alumni mentors involved in the 90-Wide about their experiences and any advice/insight I can gather from them. I have learned so much in such a short time frame and am excited about the leads and prospects that have developed. I am rolling! Thank you and all the Crusader alumni for the support of the 90-Wide program!!!

Jack McCabe '19 recently shared the following with one of his mentors Craig Cerretani '79 about his summer experience so far while interning at the private equity firm Blackstone in NYC:
Craig,
Hope all is well back in MA! I'm now in week four of the internship at Blackstone and thus far it has been a great experience. I've learned a ton and have met some great people. The firm has about 14 Crusader alumni working full-time, so I'm trying to sit down with all of them before the summer ends.
I got to grab a drink with Mark Thompson '08 last night. It was nice catching up with him. He has been a big help, so I am happy you introduced us. I just wanted to let you know how things have been going and I look forward to seeing you in the fall on some Saturday afternoons!
Best,
Jack
. . . and THE FUTURE for the 90-Wide 2.0
The newly revised Team concept for our 90-Wide, now dubbed the 90-Wide 2.0, is already reaping dividends in very short order. For a sneak peek into what the future looks like for our "Best in Class" mentoring program, let's check in with the inspiration and leadership displayed by the Teams in The Windy City. MAJOR props to Kevin Golden '09 and Mark Cannon '77 (recently awarded the Tom O' Brien 90-Wide Mentoring Award) for seeing the vision and blazing the trail:
Friends of Crusader Football in The Windy City,
On Monday July 16th, Head Coach Bob Chesney will be in town meeting with area alums at the Marriott in Rosemont.
Our newly revised 90-Wide 2.0 Mentoring Program is an excellent way for current players and recent graduates to connect with veteran alums. Relationships are fostered, and opportunities are uncovered for our younger brethren. In years past, this program consisted of designated one on one relationships between alums and players, but has now been restructured to include 28 geographical teams across the country. Two of those mentor teams exist in Chicago.
In recent weeks, Mark Cannon ’77 has vigorously attacked the goals of the HC 90 Wide Mentoring program in Chicago. The combination of this program, the efforts of our Coaching staff, the efforts of our players, and the investments made in the Athletic Department on Mt. Saint James, could propel us to a position of continuous National attention in the NCAA.
It’s what we all want, and it’s what we all expect; TO WIN.
Our ability to leverage and quantify the benefits of the Holy Cross network will be a game changer when it comes to recruiting. Our network is strong and we can strengthen it even more. With Mark running point on strategy, we’ve put a great plan in place to put some muscle behind the 90 Wide Mentor program here in Chicago. We need your help; some of your time, and your relationships.
There are 50+ football alums in the Chicago area, and we are inviting every one of them to this meeting. It will be a great opportunity for everyone to meet Coach Chesney. In addition, we’re going to discuss data which tells a story about what types of industries and companies HC graduates are seeking out. We’ll talk about the companies we’re targeting, and also discuss what we can do as a group to help the 90 Wide Mentors and Mentees in our city, and across the country.
I hope you’ll consider joining us in this endeavor. It should be a fun night. Thanks for your time, and consideration of this team effort.
Gratefully,
The 90 Wide 2.0 Chicago Team

I applaud the efforts of Kevin and Mark to run with the 90W2.0 and set no ceiling in advancing our mission and commitment to excellence in these pursuits which embody so much of what it means to be a Crusader. Knowing that all we do within the 90-Wide is done to support our Crusaders and elevate the great name of Alma Mater, let us resolve ourselves through our efforts here to bring glory and honor to our college and to our Lord and Savior who made the ultimate sacrifice for all of us.

P.S. On a sad note, Jim Staszewski '72 and Rick Cohn '68 recently brought to my attention that Gary Brackett '70, a die hard Crusader and longstanding 90-Wide mentor recently passed away. Please keep Gary and his family in your prayers. May he rest in peace.
